Food
Start with this - objectively good food but hard to enjoy (more about this follows), no included extras (the usual things like salad/bread/dips etc) some bread came with the starters but it was stingy.
Experience
But that's where the good ends - When we arrived we were told we had 90mins to eat up and get out because they want the table for someone else. Importantly, I reserved a table online and was not forewarned that we would be dining / talking against the clock. If I had been forewarned /armed with this knowledge it would have been my choice to consent to this or go elsewhere. I wasn't given that opportunity.
From the minute we sat down, the cantankerous surly staff were hurrying us up, always nearby, disconcertingly hovering over us with a purpose that didn't suggest attentiveness so much as irritation, interrupting us literally every few minutes with "are you ready yet?" until they finally descend to "are you ready to order your main course yet, because you've only got until 8"? (For clarity, I'd say we ordered starter within 10 mins of seating and main courses maybe 10 mins afer that. obviously we weren't offered (and wouldn't have taken) dessert or drinks..))
Anyway I told them no, you can wait until we're ready.
But they didn't wait long before coming back AGAIN, and by then we were all feeling sour about this and had enough, and do actually want to eat up and get the (you know what) out of there. Being so rudely rushed to shove food into our pie holes pay up and get out kind of worked, we were more than happy to leave.
Seriously even in England who talks to their customers like this. Service is a big part of the experience of dining out, the staff at Troya either don't know this or they don't care - it was busy in there that night. That doesn't mean it always will be , you just can't talk to people like that even if you need their table.
So we eat faster, because we're being rushed and also I want out of there by that time, so even though food is good I don't enjoy it, because I'm under the gun and therefore I'm not enjoying time with friends.
Don't go there. You don't have to (as of sept 2025 there are other at least two other options for good Turkish food within a stone's throw of this place..)
If you've read this review and get treated like this, you have been warned.
You may think maybe they were just having a bad day - maybe they were, I don't know. Is that important though?????
Maybe they'll have a bad day when...
Read moreOK so had dinner in here and tbh the food was good not excellent or unbelievably delicious just good and I would eat here again. The atmosphere was nice with a fresh modern interior which looked plush and inviting. The service was well let's just say acceptable. The young girl serving was not exactly that friendly and came across as any request was more of an inconvenience to her so that should be looked at as front of house is what showcases your business. The owners were very nice and friendly however they were in the kitchen so not much interaction with them. If the front of house was more welcoming than a 4 star would of been given but that's just my honest opinion. Finally please be aware the menus on Google are out of date and no reflection on the prices that are on the menu in there. Add another five pounds to every dish and your closer to the true price and they have a service charge of 10% which is something utterly disagree with on bills but once you have the bill you have no choice. This is surely a way to maximise profits unfairly because I don't pay a service charge in my local...
Read moreWent there for the lunchtime menu (which I was charged £13.95 per person, despite on the restaurant's website stating it is £12.99 per person - see screenshot and bill photo attached to this review) yesterday (Friday, 4th July). I had no reservation, but also no trouble finding a table straightaway. The atmosphere was very nice as the weather was good and the windows were opened so it felt very much like a dining out experience, even though we sat inside the restaurant (because the seating available outside is on the pavement and the cars passing by don't create the most of "romantic" ambiances). The food was tasty, although the portions were not the most generous (especially when compared to other Turkish/Mediterranean establishments I've visited in the UK). Also noteworthy is that there is no baby changing facilities available, but it was an overall a nice weekday stop for a bite to eat, so I do recommend Troya...
