Lindisfarne Mead — Attraction in England

Avoid the Winery.

It isn't mead and is very overpriced.

There are a variety of beers and whiskey to take away, yet nothing you can't get in Tesco.

Small rum cakes at 6.75£ can't be a bargain.

The range of nick nacks and fancy goods was uninspiring.

In the end I got fancy goods from Celtic crafts and local stuff from the national trust shop.

The local post office has a small yet quality range of hard cheese and accompanying sweet and savory biscuits.

Local roast and ground coffee was had from pilgrim coffee and was excellent. Took a small bag to provision a three day trip for a serious coffee fiend and it proved most satisfactory. they gave a good range of drinks as well as interesting adult soft drinks and various panini style sandwiches again of high quality.

More modest breakfast options were also available, including a bowl of muesli or a substantial...

Enjoyed our two day stay in Lindisfarne, unfortunately the Meadery which I was excited to visit was the low point of this trip. On two separate occasions we came in to do a tasting and buy mead. We were ignored both times. Finally, I left to go find someone who works there because clearly the one woman who was busy stocking shelves ignoring us couldn't be the only staff.

When I asked her if anyone was working- she took offense. Much like I took offense traveling 4000 miles to come here only to be ignored twice upon trying to purchase or taste the mead. We blindly made a purchase without being able to do the mead tasting due to her attitude. Its clear she was too bothered to serve us.

There's an excellent range of gifts and trinkets here but the real speciality is the spectrum of local (and not as local) alcoholic drinks.

To add to this, the knowledgeable staff are vital if you're looking for a recommendation. We were looking for a good spiced rum and sampled one that caught our eye, the lady at the tasting counter immediately understood what we were looking for when we were disappointed with the first option and offered us a taster of an alternative that was exactly what we wanted.
