Honestly, the best thing I did in York! Thank you Mad Alice for an absolutely amazing night, learning about York's macabre history.

My friend and I absolutely loved this walking tour. Alice was so welcoming, making sure to learn everyone's name; a feat indeed when the group was 20-30 people! She took the time throughout the entire tour, to engage with us all, asking where we were from and throwing in facts that might pertain or be of interest to us.

I usually hate big walking tours, feeling like you can never hear the guide or you miss seeing things amongst the crowd but Alice's tour was very well thought out and executed. She always stood on steps or park benches to make sure she was above eye level or would have us move to quieter locations or stand in two rows either side, so that everyone could hear and not have an impeded view. I really appreciated the effort she made for us all to have an amazing experience!

The subject matter is also deliciously gruesome but Alice has a way of making it come to life...she is a born performer and a York local through and through! She was clear, animated and above all passionate. There was not a peep in the crowd, we were all transfixed!

Thank you Alice again for the best...

Our second time visiting mad Alice, ( last time about 3 years ago) and again, as amazing as I remember the first time around. Alice is an excellent tour guide, sharing some of the most brilliant ghost stories and some gory bits too ( not too gory 😉). Very informative and has you gripped from start to finish, not to mention very entertaining too. I was blown away by how she knew everyone’s names who had pre booked and made reference to their names throughout her tour, I was astounded by her photographic memory. Alice took time to talk to the group individually, and not only that, guided the group safely over some busy roads. It’s the little things like this that make it so personal, she’s and a lovely lady, and this is why we like to re visit her tour. She deserves all the awards, and more in my eyes. Thank you Alice for an enjoyable evening. Keep up the excellent work, and we look forward to visiting...

We got off to a bumpy start as I didn't receive a confirmation or tickets after I booked, however I contacted Alice via Facebook chat and I got a response straight away with apology.

My youngest was not keen to go, but even he enjoyed it in the end, Mad Alice was very animated and spoke very clearly and loud so that even my husband and oldest son who are hard of hearing had no issues.

Mad Alice's storys were very interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the way she tied it all together. She was really inclusive and done a great job of remembering most of the people's names and interacting with us all individually whilst we walked from one location to the next, it was good that there wasn't a great amount of walking too as we were all pretty shattered by 6pm.

I highly recommend Mad Alice's tour if...

There are quite a few tours around York that you could do but I would point you in the direction of The Bloody Tour of York, hosted by Mad Alice. Less about the ghost stories - though there is certainly a few anecdotes about ghoulish encounters - this focuses more on the grisly deaths of residents in and from the city. It is presented in an informative yet highly amusing fashion, incorporates the audience and will leave you both enlightened and emotionally moved. Mad Alice herself is a great character - she is engaging, chatty, and very interesting. Her knowledge of the city is deep, and she will also recommend other tours for you to check out in the day - her tours take place in the evening. Definitely, give The Bloody Tour of York your consideration. I left feeling like I had gotten value for money.

We had a fantastic time on Mad Alice's Bloody Tour of Yorkshire! The walk was enjoyable, and Mad Alice kept us thoroughly entertained with her captivating stories. From tales of the treasury house to the cathedral, Guy Fawkes, and the tragic history of the Clifford Tower, every moment was filled with intrigue and excitement. Mad Alice's humor added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience, and her ability to engage with all the guests was remarkable. We were impressed by her memory recall for names, which made us feel valued and appreciated as participants. Overall, Mad Alice's tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Yorkshire. It's a perfect blend of history, humor, and personal interaction that makes for an unforgettable experience. We can't recommend it enough!
