This was an awesome experience!!!! I will definitely do this again!!! We started of with the visitor's experience. £5 adult, £3.50 child, £15 family, bargain!!!
The first part of the tour was by Brian, he spoke to us about the bridge and took us to the motor room to show us how the bridge actually works. Such a simple idea but so effective!! Then we went on the transporter as pedestrians in a return trip. He gave us fun fact and history about the bridge too.
Part 2 of the tour was conducted by Frank. We rode in a glass elevator (think Charlie and the Chocolate factory) to the top of the bridge. I stepped out and I swear my legs wobbled! 🤣 Walking at the top wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. My mum was terrified at first, she almost didn't go, but the view is well worth the experience. Frank made it more interesting by pointing out landmarks and giving us history lessons too.
At the end, we met another member of staff who gave us more insight about the bridge.
This was the best money I spent all year!! I definitely believe I got more than my money's worth!
After all this, we got transported in our car on the bridge as part of the the tour price... altogether it was time and...
Read moreThe Tees Transporter Bridge has been the area's landmark since opening in 1911. It is the longest working transporter bridge in the world and an iconic symbol of Teesside's engineering and industrial heritage.

The HLF-supported Tees Transporter Bridge Visitor Experience Project included the installation of a glass viewing lift to provide improved access to the upper walkway, renovation of the gondola, and the development of state-of-the-art...
Read moreI always think it's brilliant that you can still ride the Transporter Bridge. Not only is it a major feat of engineering in the first place, it's a major feat that it's still safe and fully functioning even now. There's a visitor centre right next to the town ramp, plus most of the buildings nearby seem to have blue heritage plaques on them. Gives you the feeling that you're right in the middle of your own history. The best thing is that the regeneration of the area means that leaving the bridge on the town side now puts you in the middle of the newest and most vibrant part...
