The sweets are as old as the shop…

We visited on 2nd June and purchased several sweet items including two boxes of walnut whips. After driving home, we noticed that the walnut whips were past their best before date and, after biting into them, were clearly inedible.

We tried to contact the shop via email (with photos) and telephone, and didn’t get through until a week later. A refund was offered if we returned the items. As the items had already been bitten into, they were thrown away. We also live an hour and half away so that wouldn’t have been an option, anyway. The other box had been gifted and had also been thrown in the bin.

We will not be provided a refund because we cannot return what we do not have. The person on the phone said a manager would call us back but they never took our number and tried to fob us off at every opportunity, putting the responsibility of their out of date...

We had a AirB&B for the Easter weekend break in Blazefield Bank. The weather was quite good, good enough for us to walk across country to Pateley Bridge (very hilly, not for the faint hearted) We called in the The Old Sweet shop as it looked too good to miss. Filled with beautiful sweets, the smell took be back to being a kid again. The shop is quite small so can be a bit of a squeeze as it’s extremely popular. The shop is located down a very narrow & busy road, can get congested at times, especially if there are trucks going through there. I recommend finding a nearby carpark & then walking back down. The footpaths on either side are also vey narrow, just wide enough for a buggy/wheelchair, most of the shops are wheelchair accessible as far as I can recall. Definitely recommend calling in if...

Visited the shop today, asked for 2oz of sweets and was told they only measure out in 4oz due to time and over handling of jars. Plus the scoop was a 4 oz scoop (?) Shop keeper was stood still as they told us this, instead of walking to the next jar. Wouldn't be so bad but everything was priced the same so it would of made no difference. I find it hard to understand the thought behind this as both scales behind the counter weighed out in 1oz increments. I couldn't see any notice pre warning of measuring scheme. Beware if you have children, it could become quite costly if they want a couple of different sorts of sweets mixed. On a plus, you waited a while untill we decided what we wanted, I didn't feel rushed. The scales weren't set on zero but then I noticed you weighed out...

Well they loved the gift they did say glass jar would have been better maybe there was an option I missed but the mushroom were lovely and soft also white mice reminded me of when you could get loads for £2 just what I wanted will change to 4*
