Chaos. ""FAULTY TOWERS"...I Pre-booked A Riverside Terrace Table For Two, for my friend and I - after a previous positive experience only 3 days before when my father and I were having our lunch together sitting out front. But today's episode was nothing like... No warm welcome or written Menu offered by the owners either/or on the tables. Therefore not proper Table ServiceYou have to leave your outside table (remembering to put on your face mask first) and go indoors to choose what you'd like from their black board handwritten Menu on the back wall. Remembering while reading it to maintain social distancing yourself - from the counter, the till, the toilet queue (1 ladies toilet) and the MAIN EXIT. I ordered a Tuna Mayo Jacket Potato = .£7. A Standard Latté Coffee = £2:50 and a small cup of filter coffee + milk = £1.80. Our Lattés were tepid -cold when they arrived and we were kept waiting over half an hour for a pot of tea for one and a small coffee, and we had to reorder again with a kind passing waitress. When it came to paying my separate bill to the woman at the till. She was confused and she didn't know what it was I'd had or their items and prices - let alone handing me a written bill & receipt while she repeatedly asked me her irrational questions. It beggars belief. She charged me £15:50 and I payed her in cash. You do the Maths. I realised I'd been overcharged. It goes on! Eventually she admitted "her mistake" that unbeknown to me - she'd included charging me as well for my friend's 3 items Breakfast Bap of Bacon & Tomato & Mushrooms = £3. Again you do the Maths. It took over 20 minutes later when she refunded my money £15.50 in cash. While I was using their Ladies Toilet up some stairs - my friend described to me what happened to her when she was queuing at the till to settle her bill - the same woman said to her "Can you wait outside?" ...

Dreadful service. We tried messaging the day before to book a table, message seen but ignored. Popped by in the morning to see if we could book but told that very bluntly that's it's walk ins for outside only. Came back later that day, stood at the entrance with my wife and our 2 year old son, ignored for around 10 minutes by staff, then a group of cyclists turned up, stood behind us and were immediately seated. Disgusting service and rude staff.

EDIT: Following the response of the owner, there are further things that need highlighting. My review is not aggressive, it's accurate. There were customers sat outside, sipping drinks and eating, that isn't takeaway, that's dining at your establishment. I am very much aware about the pressure on the hospitality industry and how businesses are struggling, but your staff took one look and me and my wife and immediately judged us by our appearance, that much was obvious from the get go. In reference to the cyclists, they turned up and essentially seated themselves, the fact that you are trying to defend them or yourselves in that situation is atrocious when we watched it unfold in front of us.

I believed you to be unfriendly before your response has absolutely nailed that on for me. I said it earlier and I'll repeat it, disgusting service and I'll do my best to ensure no one has to face the discrimination we did at...

Terrible service and not busy at all. Raining so was very quiet. On arrival I asked if there was a table for two. Was told simply one word yes - but then was just left standing by the entrance like a spare one rather than be shown to the table. On finally arriving at the table it was dirty with spilt milk on it and other rubbish from the previous users. This was not addressed so.....I had to ask for it to be cleaned. Ordered food which to be fair was ok. Once our meals arrived we were not approached at all whilst eating for example : everything ok ? Do you require another drink ?

We finished our meal and decided we would have a coffee. 30 mins later and with our plates still on the end of the table and no staff had approached us we decided to leave. Total time left alone at table with no approach from any staff - 60 minutes. And it’s not busy at all. It was as though we were invisible, totally ignored. Much like on arrival when we were left at the entrance. As we left I was asked if the food was ok and I replied yes - because it was. Wouldn’t visit again - service was absolutely dreadful - even on a very...

Superb afternoon tea to celebrate Mother’s Day with my mum. Lovely spot along the river this cafe has been transformed by its new owners who have changed the interior and made the menu much more modern and interesting. Had the best egg mayo sandwiches I’ve ever had, perfect scones and so much cake we had to take some home. Must also compliment the tea which was delicious and also the staff who were warm and welcoming. Lovely terrace to sit outside on which we’re short of in Pateley, dog friendly too. So happy to have somewhere in the town that serves the kind of food I want to eat. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

This wildings riverside cafe is well worth a visit. It is in a lovely location by the river. The new owners are using environmental and sustainable local produce. Trout from a neighbouring farm, bread, pastries and cakes from a local bakery. They use courgettes instead of avocado. Less use of plastic using glass bottles and loose tea. There is a breakfast menu till 11.30 and then lunch from 12pm

Recently re-opened under new ownership, this is an absolute gem. We went for the burgers with chunky chips. Everything about it was top notch. The bacon atop the burgers(two patties) was gorgeous, as was the brioche bun and even the salsa and mayo. Real attention to detail. We will definitely be back and try something different from the menu. The view if you sit outside is wonderful too.
