Whilst having a weekend break in North Yorkshire i discovered what I feel is a hidden gem of local history.
Value for money at £5 per adult gets you an insight into how the locals lived during Victorian times, war times and life in general in the black n white days so to speak. The museum is split into sections each unique in its own right. Lots of local photos help you paint a picture.
There is the first TV that was purchased in the area at a cost of £85 which in today's money is circa £3000. They have set sections up to look like it did in the day, a shop, a solicitors, a living room, etc etc Staff are very enthusiastic local volunteers who can't wait to tell you some of the history. Definitely worth a visit if you're staying in the area or just...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our visit and was impressed with this little museum that actually is not that little! It has a wide variety of displays and something of interest to everyone, the staff are very friendly and are all volunteers. There is a car park and toilets at the beginning which is a plus too.
The admission fee is only £3 for adults and children free and you have a chance to make a donation via a box on your way out which we did as we think it's important to support these local museums.
I would say that for a quick look around 2 hours is doable but you could easily almost double that as there is so much to see. There is also some craft workshops that looked interesting but we (2 adults and toddler) didn't have time to look as we had to...
Read moreReally enjoyed this museum.
£3 per adult and children free. We asked for a free carer ticket which was granted but more through the volunteers niceness than what was in there handbook.
It does state online carers are free but the poor volunteers were a bit flummoxed.
The 2 ladies we saw were amazing. So friendly and helpful. Bumped into us a few times around the museum and explained things we may not of seen.
As for the museum it's brilliant. Jam packed in every inch of Yorkshire history. All well labelled and a treasure trove of artifacts and local history.
A brilliant museum and one I'll gladly go back too. Didn't get any photos as was to intrigued by all the items on display.
Well done nidderdale museum....
