Caister-On-Sea (Beach) — Attraction in Great Yarmouth

Firstly the negatives. Parking is cash only and doesn’t give any change, in this day and age can’t believe you can’t pay by card either by ringing a number or via the machine. A few people just left as they didn’t have any change. Car park itself is decent size sadly the toilets were closed, there is some public toilets on high street a short walk away if you need them. The positives, beach itself was wonderful we went at around 12pm on a Monday (kids were at school) and beach was pretty much deserted. Big stretch of sandy beach for the dogs to run on and we ended up walking to California and back. Seen other comments regarding dog poo everywhere but can’t say I saw much at all maybe a couple in two hours walking. We had a seal follow us in the sea which was great to see. When we got back to the car walked up to the brilliant fish and chip shop (yes that’s its name) and had a decent fish and chip lunch on the beach. Can’t say what it’s like in high season but for us it was a nice way to spend the afternoon just shame about...

Had a lovely afternoon here. Quiet, dog-friendly beach. Car park close by (£1 per hour this season). Lovely sands and dunes for miles. Watched a seal bobbing around in the sea. There are picnic benches between car park and dunes. Litter-free, plenty of bins nearby. Only negative....Big shame there was dog mess (3 or 4 lots) on the main pathway from car park through dunes. Shame on you lazy dog owners who give us All a bad name. Lifeboat and National Coast Watch stations next to car park and beach, are well worth a visit. No entry fee but donations are very welcome of course. Dogs welcome on leads. See the lifeboat hitched to the tractor, ready to go in case of a call-out. Read about local rescue history (going back to the 13th century), have a cuppa, cold drink or ice cream from the cafe. Maybe some cake, a toasted sandwich or a bacon roll. Little gift shop is super, with everything from book marks and polo shirts to bargain bric-a-brac and...

Nice beach. Dog friendly. Not so friendly anglers. This one of the loveliest beaches on the eastern coast of East Anglia. So far unspoilt by too much tourism, very sandy and a fair amount of dunes that help resist the erosion. Hundreds of dogs use this beach everyday, and most dog owners are responsible and clear up after them. However at certain times some fishing goes on from the beach, not all of them are happy that dogs rome free, and can be quite abusive if their uncovered bait is sniffed out by any dog, why not keep it covered? All in all though, 9 times out of 10 it is a great place to exercise dogs, or just to relax or maybe take a stroll along the disused railway.
