Gate Caister — Restaurant in Great Yarmouth

We booked over email to go down to have a family meal. And was attracted to the lava rock hot plate dishes which allowed you to cook your own steak at your table. Due to have dogs we booked to sit out side. On arrival we found our seats out side and all choose what meal we wanted. With 6 out of the 7 people in the party wanting the Lava Rock hot plates. Which had attracted us to the pub. When we went to order the meals we were told that we could have the hot plates outside. With no real reason as to why. Which left us with only a limited bar menu. Of burgers and chips etc. Such a rule should have been highlighted when we booked. Or on the website. And explained when we arrived and were given the menu. Rather than letting us choose and then be told. All round a disappointing menu out. And felt bad for the rest of the family, as I choose the location. Bar food that we did have was...

We booked here because the reviews where good and we wanted steak. It was dog and kid friendly so booked a table for 6. We called about half an hour before to check we had been given a table that was dog friendly as we know not every table would be allowed dogs. We walked all that way but when we arrived we where warned that half the menu wasn't available as they had sold out. And they only had 2 steaks left. I was really annoyed. Why, when we called half an hour before, didn't the women warn us of the missing menu items? We would have cancelled and booked elsewhere. So we then struggled to find somewhere else. It made it very difficult as there where 6 of us, a baby and dog. We walked all that way...

car park dark and lots of pot hole's! When we entered the guy behind the bar was friendly and we went round the corner for food the place was clean. In our party there was 4 people 1 had scampi and chips said scampi over cooked 2 had steaks but 1 wasn't to frilled about cooking it yourself i had ham egg and chip's eggs good ham nice and thick and well cooked none of us that fussed on the chip's. The lady who brought our food out was nice as again was the guy. Another negative was the starters didn't have prices on chalk board. I could not fault the politeness off staff...
