The Millennium Walkway is an unusual elevated pathway that runs down the side of a deep gorge on the River Goyt at New Mills on the Cheshire/Derbyshire border. Set satnav for Torr Top car park in New Mills. Charges are Just £2:50 for 3 hours. On the side of the car park you'll find some old steps that lead down a short hill towards the amazing Millennium Walkway. Just follow the signs through old industrial buildings and you get to the gateway. The Walkway was completed in 1999 and is a 175 yard long aerial pathway high up on stilts that runs along the cliffside of the River Goyt as it runs through a great gorge and connects to the Torrs Riverside Park. It really is one of those " once seen, never forgotten" constructions. Take time to look around and find little paths running off to terrific viewpoints.I would defy anyone to walk along there and not take photos. An absolutely brilliant piece of engineering that is incorporated into a number of other routes such as the Midshires Way. On the far side of the bridge there is Torr Vale Mill, a Grade 2 Listed building that has a cafe and even holiday accommodation.

After the mill you can continue along a short stretch of canal and then across Goytside Meadows with its fabulous views of the peaks and a very unusual sundial and along the peaceful riverbanks of the Torrs Riverside Park. The Walkway does not require any special footwear but it is down some steep paths, so wheelchairs and pushchairs may find it difficult. The Goytside Meadows section can be muddy in places and there are some slippery downhill sections that might need stout shoes. I was grateful for having worn boots. The riverside leads back, under a double -decker bridge, via a short northern loop, back to the car park.

A really good day out, lovey town, hillside views and quite riverbanks. But that aerial walkway...

The walk its self is lovely, well maintained but not so much that its fully paved. It is a wild walk, it is not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The bridge itself is even, and easy to walk. The paths either side are bumpy, some parts cobbled, so parts thin, some parts wide. It's an easy walk, close to town, and lots of interesting places nearby by. Lots of places to take photos and play in the river.

Parking however is an issue, don't even attempt the train car park. Its down a narrow 2 way road, there are no passing places, and only 1 cars width, that turns into a very rough steep road. Pot-holed is an understatement, this road is so rough you would expect to find it on a 4×4 adventure trail. Try the Torr car park, unfortunately its down a side street that isn't well signposted, but its better, cheaper and more spacious than the train...

What a fantastic walk round the Millennium walk way in New Mills in the Peak District.

If you get a parking space, park in the car park, Sk22 4BS.. There you will come out turn left then left again were you will see the sign Millennium walk way.. Its a steep cobbled walk down to the start.. But the views are great, walk straight ahead, to see the Bridges, Viaduct, Waterfalls.. The walk will take in the canal too.. 2. 5 miles later you end up back were started.

Beautiful scenery, great walk as you pass the Old Mill and The Swizzels factory.

The views are great...
