This is fast becoming one of my favourite parks. Every part of this place is amazing. There's countless winding and hidden paths, a stunning duckpond with a beautiful bridge, lots of pavillions to hide in when it rains, a water fountain, hidden waterfall and the beat of all Ashton Memorial. The latter is a real gem. Not only can you go inside and look up at the stunning artwork on the ceiling, but you can also climb the internal staircase and look out at the view across Lancaster, Morecambe and towards Cumbria - all for free. Yes, there is no admission price. Next to the memorial is a beautiful butterfly enclosure with access via the charming cafe next door. Even during half term, there were plenty of seats and the service was excellent. If that's not enough, there's a hidden temple just to the side of the butterfly enclosure (see photo). Parking is unbelievably cheap (compared to most major cities, anyway) but needs to be done via the RingGo app as the machines don't seem to work with cash or contactless. Best way to use this park is either an autumn stroll or for a picnic in the afternoon after exploring...

Well I'm blown away with this place, I must say. Aswell as being a place with outstanding beauty, it's at home with nature, you can see from my pictures, they are well and truly looking out for all the wildlife that exists in the park, with numbered bird boxes (didn't spot them all) to keep Nature as it should be, by providing a warm and safe environment. I'm a big believer of protecting the planet, we only have one world, Once our planet is gone it will be the end of all life and humanity. Facilities to suit everyone, even the park's are made from sustainable wood, everything is natural. I didn't spot one thing in the park that was artificial. I highly recommend a visit to this park for the simple reason, it's beautiful! Just stop and think about what I've just said, take all in and you'll realise what I'm...
Read moreLocated just north of Lancaster, with magnificent views across the bay towards the Lake District. The Folly dominates the park, as it's an imposing but attractive piece of architecture. It is open and you can get up to the viewing galleries near the very top. But you can't get to the very top unfortunately. Behind the Folly is the butterfly house, which was closed and devoid of butterflys when I visited in mid April. The animal enclosure was also animal-free.
The grounds (54 acres) are pleasant to walk around. There's a couple of miles of paths to have a go at. Squirrels and birds to be seen. There's also a cafe, which serves hot food and drinks. I don't recommend the chicken, chorizo & mozerella panini. But the coffee was nice. There's plenty of places around the park for kids to play. When I visited I parked on the road just outside one of the main entrances, however there are car parks...
