Bar staff who were working on Friday 2/12 need customer service training or a different job. I live quite close to The White Cross but as of late I find myself going here less and less. I was here on Friday with some friends, will be the last time for a while. The staff really let the place down. First order I asked for a Guinness and the barman acted in a bizarre way as if I'd asked for a drink he'd never heard of and the entire communication was just odd. Second time at the bar, one of my friends wanted to try a Baby Guinness shot. Made up of Kahlua or Tia Maria and Bailey's. I have ordered this in The White Cross before no problem. This was a different barman who 'served' me and said , 'I'm not doing it' as he didn't know how to put it through the till. He had a really bad attitude, so I asked if his colleague would make them and he also refused. I have worked in customer service before and it does not look good when a business refuses a sale because they do not know how to take your money. If you don't know- ask. They are plenty of other pubs in Lancaster that will happily take my money and they are where I will frequent instead. I would not be happy if I was the owner of The White Cross and I am definitely happy...
Read moreWe came here for our team lunch. The service was amazing. The young waitress continually asked if there was anything we needed, brought out all the food two dishes at a time, offered drinks and extra sauces. When she cleared our table again she asked if we wanted coffees or sweets. Her manner was so friendly I couldn’t fault her. Most of us had sandwiches and they were huge. Several people struggled to finish them. The fish finger sandwich looked amazing and the brisket if beef. All those that had these sandwiches said they were delicious. The prices ranged from £6-£7. Some ordered chips which was an extra cost. I had a sharing platter for £10.50. I choose sweetcorn fritters, duck spring roll and garlic king prawns. I also got bread, butter, salad and chutney. All very nice especially the sweetcorn fritters. The pub is very big and was nice and clean. They allow children and dogs. Considering this pub is next to my work I’ve never been. Now I’m thinking we’ll be going again fairly soon. I managed to pArk in their carpark which was a bonus as I was worried I wouldn’t get on but there were plenty of spaces available. There is out door seating right next to the canal which I was told is alway busy when...
Read moreWe came up from Kent so to us the prices were amazingly cheap!
Two of us had a starter, main course, a coke, cider and a glass of wine. It only came to £38. That's not bad at all!
The place was super clean and a really nice layout with minimal decorations on the table that just worked perfectly with the theme of the place.
Waiting times.. there was non, as soon as we were seated the waitress was with us to take drink orders. 5min later she asked if we were ready.
Within 15min our starters were with us and 15 after that our main course.
I really liked that they didn't hover over the table every 30s to make sure your enjoying your food.
On to the meal. Simply put, it was amazing and one of the best meals I've eaten in a long time. The venison steak was cooked to my specification and was perfect and full of flavour. It wasn't tough and my knife cut through it like butter. The sides offered a perfect ammount for the meal and the potato was crisped to perfection and again with an amazing taste.
I left feeling full and extremely satisfied. If I ever come back to Lancaster again we will be booking another table.
Really enjoyed the experience and I'm sure...
