Went to an evening wedding function here last Saturday. It is a stunning building, all stained glass windows, very church like with a high arched roof, many tapestries on the walls and old stonework, truly beautiful place. Apparently the first Guildhall was built on this site in 1387 with many renovations and additions to the building over the following centuries. I really do like historic buildings so had a good look around whilst I was there too. The 'do' was in the biggest room in the building and the acoustics were amazing. The indie rock band 'Punch the Air' put their heart and soul into creating a fab setlist of songs; so much energy and the buffet was amazing, so much tasty, well prepared food, both hot and cold. Read moreWe went to play chess in the Guildhall. The club is big and active with three matches being played against other local clubs on the night we went. Games start at 7:15 which is a little earlier than is usual. Though there were league matches in progress there were also plenty of people playing casual games, and there was also some instruction going on. Tea and coffee were available and free and the club was very welcoming. If I lived closer I'd be tempted to play...
