Lisburn Castle Gardens — Attraction in Lisnagarvy

A nice enough small park, handy to the town if you want to pop in for a picnic lunch. Sadly, due to it's size, it's very noisy with traffic all around. The pool and lawns are pleasant and well kept and there is plenty of seating in both sunny and shady areas. The fruit trees on the upper level of terracing are healthy, however the ones on the 'ground' level are infested with some sort of parasite and need attention. Also, there is a shortage of flowering plants for pollinators which is a missed opportunity in this urban oasis. It could do with some input from local volunteers or guerilla...

Going to Castle Gardens should be a pleasant experience and it would be if the staff there were not so rude to people the way they talk to people is not acceptable. They tend to stand outside their office smoking A LOT  If someone had breathing problems i would advise them to stay clear. There are also too many dogs without leads and no one ever tells the owners to put the lead on their dog. Lovely historic spot for a short walk. Plenty of sympathetic restoration work has been done but it's a shame that the perron and the terraces have been padlocked shut for about a year now, due to Health and Safety concerns. Also, shame that there's no access from the gardens to the historic graveyard at the rear of the Cathedral. Some discreet information panels would be very welcomed in the gardens - there is an amazing history here: the 1641 battle and fire of Lisburn, the huge house, the second fire of Lisburn; even the walls...
