It's a large enough park to enjoy a decent walk and certainly enough folk were using it during my visit. There are a couple of venues for coffee, ice creams or a small bite to eat with inside and outside eating areas. A small restroom is available but big enough to support visitors on the day I was there. So is it worth a visit? Yes but don't expect too much. The park is overgrown in some areas, there was a fair amount of rubbish and some things marked on a map such as the 1000 year old tree are hugely disappointing. The boating lake, was overrun with weeds in the area I approached, the fence surrounding it was either thrown into the undergrowth, rusted or falling over and I didn't see any boats. The whole park air is one of run down 'withering on the vine' former glory. All that aside you can still walk through it, get a drink, eat some food and have an ice cream so it's ok for that. On street parking and a couple of other parking areas...

One of the most beautiful parks in the city. There's a playground for children, exercise machines, fairs in summer, tennis courts, a football pitch with goal posts, an art gallery... all free! A cafe plus ice cream shop with dog friendly outdoor courtyard to sit and enjoy, public toilets are available. A dog free picnic area exists near the gardens. Botanical gardens, near the café, are stunning and a tranquil place to stop on a on a bench with a chilled drink or a cup of tea, the Japanese garden within this complex has a real magical quality that I found enchanting as a child. The lake is a pleasure to visit and enjoy the wildlife, it is possible to fish there also. If you have never been and you're a resident, orr you're visiting the city and want a chilled out day, it is very well connected by public transport, I strongly recommend a visit, you will not forget the...

Santa Land visit was first rate. Wasn't expecting a great deal as from the outside it doesn't look too inspiring, but once through the gate the excellent service, attention to detail and quality/value of the ride experience was faultless. Had a wonderful time. Santa was just perfect and the gift was fab. In fact Santa was so utterly charming that we forgot to transact the ticket (forgot we'd gone in for a present) and it was their very observant staff who pointed out to us as we were about to leave the park that we should pop back to see Santa again. When we did he handled the situation so well that my Granddaughter was completely unaware that it wasn't a spontaneous act of generosity on his part. Ten out of ten we loved it all and will definitely go again next year. try to be there at sunset for the magic of the ferris wheel against a...

Nice large park. Not as big as nearby Sefton, but it is generally quieter. The park only has two car parks, both at the same place, near the I e cream parlour, with a small road separating them and they can get full quickly. So you'll need to park on the side roads when the park is busy. There's an ice cream parlour which serves 'proper' ice cream and there's a cafe on the mansion. There's a medium sized kids playground with some okay frames outside for older kids although some of these are now damaged. There also a walled garden and within that a small Japanese garden with a pond in the middle which can often be completely empty as it's easy to miss. All in all a good, fun park with lots to keep the kids entertained.

Aug 2018: Came with my 2 boys. The park is still well maintained. They are doing some renovation work on the house. The toilets are now situated by the 'Reader'/Ice Cream Parlour. We went to the Urban Beach. We had Ice Creams. We used the toilet and played in the playground. New & old pics included. 2017 We used our Radar Key to access the Disabled Toilet. It's okay but not really big enough to lay on the floor. There is a baby change unit on the wall. This is listed on the 'Changing Places' site. If there is another disabled toilet then I am happy to stand corrected but this toilet was not great for us. The Park is great - especially with the Summer Activities.
