This is a marvellous park. Crowned by a four hundred years oak, it was once known as Arno's Park. The stately home which once ranged over the territory is hardly visible from the park but if you wander to the top of Wilmer Way, you will find it on the left, just before Southgate Green. The park itself extends, just about, from the border of the lovely Broomfield Park to Waterfall Road - the old road up to the gates of Southgate. There are wonderful woods - in which I used to play hide and seek when my children were young. Though, some of the lovely old paths have been ruined by Enfield Council by tarmacking them over, rather than leaving them wild. This may have been (guessing) a gesture to accessibility for wheelchair users. Good - but it spoils for wheelchair users what it spoils for all - a tramp through ancient woodland with no sign of our century. The new kids' playpark looks good and is popular but no reason was ever given by the council why the lovely old playpark (now a communal garden, mostly locked up) could not have seen similar investment. It was a lovely location, just by Pymme's Brook, with wild land adjacent, a temptation to all the Williams out there. I wandered through that wild land with my young children, who loved it. Now the land is difficult to access, with padlocks barring the way - except for precise days and times. To more positive things - there are tennis courts which, after years in growing disrepair, were somehow refurbished, with new surfaces and nets. OK, the nets might not be perfect, but the courts are free and the surface good. Finally, there is a friendly bowling club which welcomes new members. I am not a member but feel the pull of that leisurely yet very skilful game. To sum up, acres of beautiful green space. Football with the kids, picnics, coffee while watching young children in the new playpark and, best of all, walking through the woods, listening to birdsong in the city and being grateful that this beautiful parkland was left to...
Read moreA very peaceful family park in a great set up. Friendly users. Great kids playground with modern facilities. Considerate users keeping clean. Please lets continue that. In summer a lovely chap comes in with his ice-cream van which is a treat for the children and adults alike. So good idea to carry some cash. I really admire the rail bridge and their pillars of nice architectural design.
There are toilets and baby changing facility. A nice Tennis court with several pitch. And the hidden gem is the Bowling club which is very well manicured run by some gentle folks who are friendly.
Most amazing feature to mention is the large habitat of Ring-necked parakeets at the back of the playground. Really brings a lot of joys to see exotic wildlife in this urban...
Read moreArnos Park is really peaceful to visit for an early morning walk. The park may be small, but nonetheless has a huge open space and a really picturesque sight of the railway bridge.
There's a dog agility course which looks fantastic and great for anyone to take their dogs to use. It's a real shame that Arnos Park hasn't got a cafe, although as an alternative there is a van selling food & drink. The toilets are located beneath the bridge, and opposite there's the Bowling Green & Tennis Courts.
There's plenty of benches and litter bins around Arnos Park, and always pleased to see how the park is well maintained at all times.
I hugely recommend anyone to walk along the Pymmes Brook trail, which definitely has an adventurous...
