Went to get balayage done by Nicola at the portobello road location, as I have in the past. Seemed to be going fine until Nicola had a junior mix the bleach for the top half of my head while she finished up painting the bottom half. During the rinse process I heard Nicola reprimanding the junior for mixing something incorrectly but I assumed she had just gotten the colour wrong which is why we needed to “double tone my hair to seal in the colour”. I wasn’t upset at the time because accidents happen when training but if the colour could be fixed then it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s now become very apparent that they burned off large chunks of my hair that now stick straight up and will take years to grow back out to the shoulder length I had. I can’t wear my hair up anymore without looking ridiculous and a messy bun was my go to daily style. Nicola never mentioned the issue or loss of hair to me and continued to charge me a more senior stylists colour rate even though she knew chunks of my hair had been burned off because she failed to supervise the junior mixing the bleach. JRs make mistakes, but when that happens you should own it, not try and hide it from the client. Before I left they had styled my hair so it wasn’t apparent at first but I did think the top didn’t have much colour for the amount of hair I had seen Nicola paint. Now I know why and I will not be returning to Taylor Taylor. After 6 years of looking for a hairdresser in East Anglia & London, I finally ended up on the Taylor & Taylor website. As my hair is very thick & wavy I have struggled to find someone who has the skill to deal with it. Thank goodness I found this place as after reading all of the stylists bios I found Luke’s, then I saw a couple of videos of him cutting and then thinning hair & I hoped I’d found the right person. As my hair is so thick it needs more of a slicing style to thinning rather than small snips with scissors (my personal interpretation!). Booked the appointment & am so relieved to have finally found that hairdresser I’ve been searching for. Thank you Luke for giving me a lovely cut and getting some shape back into my hair in the very first cut. There was a quite of a mess to sort out after my last few cuts at a different & unrelated salon and still he managed to give me a glam hair cut. As his bio says, a master of his craft for sure. If you’ve thick or wavy hair and are looking for someone who knows exactly what they are doing and how to handle this kind of hair, then Luke is the person you need to see. It’s a 3hr journey door to door to the salon but it’ll be a journey worth making if it means I get a decent hair cut that looks great, feels even in terms of weight balance & all I have had since Saturday is comments saying ‘wow’ what a difference with your hair, then it’s worth all of the effort. Most disappointed with my experience as I had heard good things from friends. I went in on Saturday and spoke to reception about what I wanted done. She told me to come back on Sunday on the hour for a consultation with a technician. I asked her if I should book an apt and she told me not to worry as the day was ‘clear’ and said just to come on the hour. She also did a patch test and told me 24 hours would be suffice. I returned the next day at 11 and the receptionist looked at me like I was crazy. She told me they were fully booked and the time slot that she could’ve put me in had ‘just’ been booked online. She also told me that the patch test needed to be 48 hours. She asked me if I knew the name of the person who I had spoken to or what they looked like. As any FYI, when I go into a place of business, I expect front of house to know what they are talking about and for them to get my details, not vice-versa. I told her the time I came in, surely it should be relatively easy to deduct who was working at that point? Long story short I was not helped, they did not do anything to even try to accommodate me. All I got was a ‘well if you don’t know who you spoke to’ answer as well a a confirmation that Saturday they had ‘girls’ filling in and one of them must not have known.
