Beautiful lock along the Lea Valley.Great ideas are so simple, yet nobody thought about it, for a thousand years.Congratulations to the great teams of thinkers, engineers, builders, masons, and financiers who pooled their resources together. Not forgetting the stable hands and blacksmiths who would guide the shire horses along the towpath. Absolute genius. Based on the same Lock designs, Chinese engineers built one of the largest locks at the Three Gorges Dam. Last weekend, I was fortunate to encounter three beautiful Caguya ducks in the lock. Read moreNice walk on the riverside and enjoy watching the boaters use the lock. It's a wonderful piece of architecture controling the water on two levels and enabling the boats to pass between the levels. The boat drives in to the lock the gate is then closed and the water filled into the lock or emptied (depending on direction of travel) until the water reaches the level of the other side thereby raising or lowering the boat which can then leave the lock and continue to travel on...
