Always enjoy going to the Markfield. Park cafe. The owner has always been friendly and welcoming. It's a lovely location as well, tucked away in a lovely peaceful corner of the park close to the canal. A little oasis and a pleasant retreat from the busy A10 main road at the opposite end of Crowland Road. The food isn't the cheapest but the way I look at it is that I'm paying for the location as well as the food. The garden area outside is lovely and in the summer months the owner has a fine mist spray of water above the external seating area at the side of the cafe to keep customers cool. It's nice and children friendly as well with small children's rides and toys for children to play with. There's some lovely walks nearby as well that take you along the canal and over the bridge and in to the lovely lea valley area and also Springfield park. I believe that the cafe also serves alcohol as well and so it's a nice relaxing place to have a beer too. Lovely Marshfield ice cream as well with lots of flavours to choose from and the fabulous Markfield beam engine...
Read moreFabulous location in a beautiful park and just what we need in South Tottenham. Sadly every time we come we have the same issue waiting for food - usually an hour or more even when it's something simple like a jacket potato! We usually have to remind numerous times and thy always forget what you wanted and you see them coming out with food that no one has seemed to have ordered! And when the food does come it's always at different times! We have never eaten at the same time! One of us finishes before the other has even had their meal! Then a free drink is offered which is lovely but could be so avoidable and must mean they are losing money. They need to put an ordering system in place and use table numbers rather than frantically running around shouting out what food they have! Give customers an order number and a sign for the table and order your receipts so you know who has ordered what and when! It's simple! It's such a shame as it could be amazing if they...
Read moreI came across this nice place today when pedalling along the Lea Navigation. First I had a look at the impressing beam steam engine next door and then had a coffee and a piece of cake here afterwards. Short summary: Life is too short for poor coffee, don't drink one here, it's dreadful.
It started with the lady in charge of the espresso machine filling two thirds of the big coffee bowl with 'coffee', all through the same bit of ground coffee (suitable for not more than a third of the amount of water used, also obviously not from fresh beans) thus washing all the bitterness out of it and into the bowl. Making a good coffee is an art but no rocket science. Why does nobody show them how it's done? Can't say anything about the food, the blueberry cheesecake was obviously not homemade...
