Beautiful park, divided into two distinct areas.
Lakeside, teeming with fresh morning joggers, Chinese pagoda, The Pavilion Cafe, serving up hot coffees & crispy pastries, distinct and unmissable for it’s Victorian designed large glass dome and situated right on the waters edge, where you can hire peddle boats and visited the lakes islands.
Hosting a Sunday market along ‘Bonner Gate’, selling a wonderful array of artisan products, home brewed beers, delicate cheeses, fragrant flowers, fresh baked bread and sweet treats, healthy snacks and hot meals, with a newly open small coffee and cake shop with wooden benches under gooseberry trees.
With polite ducks and non-temperamental swans, friendly squirrels and not too many annoying pidgins, along with clean public toilets dotted around the well maintained and luscious gardens, a young children’s play park, plenty of large trees to shade under and loads of space to run around, it makes the perfect picnic spot for families and friends.
The Cricket pavilion side houses Victoria parks regal water fountain,
(now, sadly, un-functional and strangely neglected. Where all other aspects of Victoria park are lovingly maintained and proudly exhibited, this extravagant fountain, looking like something out of the 1600’s, is unused, uncleaned, with black swampy water pools surrounding where no wildlife ever ventures. The once royal fountain, crafted with red garnet and ornate design still bares the remnants of the old chains that held silver dishes and drinking goblets for public use, where fresh clean water poured from the pots of marble cherubs.)
A popular bandstand is closeby nestled among trees with large football pitch sized fields stretching north-eastwards where you’ll see people playing sports, throwing frisbees, dogs running freely and many groups sitting and socialising in the open grounds.
This side also supports it own small lake, a pond and quaint old English gardens as well as various outdoor gymnasiums, a bigger children’s playground with climbing and water features, a skatepark, it’s own “Hub Cafe” as well as tennis courts, cricket and football fields and a running track!!!
Accessible along regents canal, intersecting with Hertford union canal, with the closest Westside (Lakeside) station being Cambridge Health Overground, and Eastside (Cricket pavilion) being Hackney Wick Overground, Victoria park is definitely a place to ride your bike along the canal too, walk, cruise in on your canoe or rock up on your narrow boat.
Be sure to go on a sunny Sunday to enjoy the market and available...

Read moreAbsolutely loved walking to (and within) the park. The winding pathways seamlessly connecting one area with another makes the place look huge..didn’t even realise when the 12k steps were so easily accomplished without breaking a sweat (to be fair the temperature was freezing cold with a very strong breeze)... it’s a perfect place for people to walk, jog, cycle, have their pets , get together with friends and family ...plenty of chairs sprinkled liberally all around the park. It has got a few small ponds , a cafe (I didn’t visit .think may have been closed anyway due to restrictions ) and an orchid. Plenty of space for spending couple of hours very easily. A guy playing beautiful guitar and songs transformed the already beautiful place to a melodically magical world. I could easily see why it’s the favourite park for many as well as a summer season hotspot. If you are connecting via underground , I believe the closest station should be Benthal Green. One could easily make a day trip to Bricklane markets, street arts and Victoria Park if you happened to be in East London. In normal circumstances, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants around the area but with restrictions on pubs , restaurants and cafes, it’s better to come prepared with your own hot drink and water if you are planning to spend the day. Benthal Green station has a Sainsbury close by if you want to explore it for options before or...
