Breathtaking views looking down on surrounding area from pathways leading to shaded woods. Serious walkers be advised to come prepared with walking boots, especially if weather is a little rainy. The mud made it fun, and an adventurous challenge for the route chosen. That's what was great at the start, because on getting to the car park, there was a fantastic team of National Trust helpers to assist with suggesting the optimal route for you across Box Hill. The paths merged in places and perhaps signage needs adding here and there, but the amazing thing is that each route has a QR Code, so you can track your path on your phone or smart device, start to finish. Lovely to meet and chat with fellow walkers along the way, sharing stories and adding to the adventure. A welcome reward at the end of our walk was a creamy hot chocolate in the cute cafe near the car park. Toilets were clean, and there was plenty of soap and hot water to wash someone's slightly muddy hands!

Loved the walk, the silence of the woods, birdsong, the sight of a majestic kestrel, busy bluetits, a tiny shrew, blessed gentle rainfall, meandering sheep in fields nearby... Well worth coming to Box Hill to enjoy a...

Great views, National Trust car park saves a hike up the hill (cost is free for National Trust members, prices on attached photos for non-members); follow the NT sign up the zig zag Road. We did the stepping stone walk on a warm but mercifully not sunny day in August. It was doable in comfy trainers although it did involve a very steep descent down the steps from the car park to the stepping stones and then we followed the path along the river (although you can't actually see the river) back to the village where the zig zag road starts going up the hill. The path back up the hill starts just to the left of the hotel on the roundabout and is very steep, so you need to be fully mobile and relatively fit to get up there. It looked very slippery for those coming down that way as it was just a gravel path on a steep hill, not steps like going down to the stepping stones. We did the whole walk slowly with a 4 year old who definitely needed carrying for the steepest parts and with a few stops to catch out breath and have a snack it took us approx 2 hours. It was a nice walk but we didn't realise how steep the slopes would be and wished we had...

I had a wonderful time visiting Box Hill on the Summer Bank Holiday. It was a beautiful day, and the train journey from London was only an hour or so. Once I arrived at Box Hill, I took a short hike to the top of the hill. The views from the top were amazing! I could see for miles in every direction. There were rolling hills, lush forests, and even London in the distance.

After my hike, I was feeling a bit tired, so I decided to head back to the train station with a stop by the Stepping Stonea pub but be mindful because I went just after 6pm and they stopped serving food.

I was glad I had brought some water and comfortable shoes, as the hike was a bit more challenging than I expected. But it was all worth it for the amazing views!

If you're planning a visit to Box Hill, I highly recommend it. Just be sure to bring some water and comfortable shoes, and allow plenty of time for the hike. You won't be...
