Plenty of seating!!! Went on a beautifully sunny February morning.
The drive up to the Box Hill Top Cafe was great, roads looked clean, well kept and good signage. Plenty of parking available. I've got a National Trust membership so parking was free. Otherwise, I think it was £6 for the whole day at the time of my visit.
The cafe and the NT hut were smart and clean looking, I felt I wanted to go in because they were well presented. The shop was open and had plenty of helpful products for walking, bird watching and snacks. We had arrived a bit too early because the cafe team were still baking the sausage rolls and snacks!!!
Outside there is a stand with lots of information on hiking, walking, cycling and kids routes that can be followed around Box Hill - great idea that we saw lots of people were taking advantage of when we returned at lunchtime after our first walk.
The service team were really friendly and helpful. They went to get a stock item they had run out if especially for us, they checked nutritional info for my vegan friend and they even found my phone and looked after it as I drove 35 miles back to collect it!
We will be back to hike more of the routes in a couple of...
Read moreDidn't get to try any food, as they were already packing away at 4.25pm. We were told no more food as they'd turned everything off and that we could have a stale doughnut that was left out on a plate on the side, while other fresh cakes were already wrapped up in cellophane and couldn't be opened. No apologies, sorry, how can we help you? No proactivity in terms of offering any form of customer service. Have these kids even been trained?! Then, when we tried to leave, one of the young lads locked the door as we approached it and told us we had to exit through the back. Needless to say, we unlocked the door ourselves and left through the front. The sign out the front still said open, and the website and Google maps said 5pm closing time. This is what happens when you leave a load of teenagers in charge, who just decide to shut up early for their own...
Read moreThis National Trust cafe is a lovely place to sit down for a cup of tea after a stroll around Box Hill. It stocks the normal mix of National Trust food: sandwiches, salads, baked potatoes; as well some lovely cakes. And it's used by a eclectic mix of people: weekends walkers, hard core MAMIL cyclists who have just made it up the impressive hill climb; along with dog owners and families. Just outside is an info board with all the different walking routes displayed, and you can pick up a leaflet to guide you around the walk of your choice. We found the maps impenetrable and ended up getting completely lost but, knowing that there was a piece of Victoria Sponge waiting for us in the cafe, made it all...
