First time here for my sister and I today. We were originally trying to get to the actual boxhill cafe (I think owned by the national trust) but we lost our bearings. This little gem came up on the google maps so we thought let's try it. It is located in a car park opposite the Burford Bridge restaurant. The carpark is free to use. I have eaten at the Burford Bridge restaurant a few times and I never knew about this place as from that direction it does seem a tad hidden. I m very glad we did try Ryka Cafe because this little place is just what you want either at the end of a good long (very steep) walk or at the beginning to put some substance in your belly. They have a good variety of hot and cold food at reasonable prices plus all of the usual drinks. It has plenty of outside seating to enjoy the sunshine although there a few table tables inside. You can wait outside for your order number to be called as we did and dont worry you will definitely hear it. The sunshine was a bonus today sitting amongst the lovely scenery. There is some space for the kiddies to run around too. The staff were extremely friendly and informative, I wish I could have given a bigger tip. It seems popular with motorcyclists as we saw several. This place also serves as a good pit stop too. We will definitely return when we visit the area and I will return when on a cycle ride. Well...
Read moreVisited Rykas today with my sister. They serve two different types of plant based burger- I had the green Machine and my sister had the Plant Power. We agreed that they were both some of the best burgers that we have ever had. Can't speak for the rest of the menu but it looked quite extensive. Friendly, prompt and efficient service too.Our burgers were ambitiously priced but probably about average for such establishments. There is a large car park where there are usually some tasty motorbikes and interesting cars to look at/admire/drool over if you're into that sort of thing. Exceptionally good disabled/wheelchair access. Nice benches to sit upon and consume one's recently purchased food and/or drink. No play area as such for the kids but an adequately sized grassy area and anyway, you've got all that sort of malarkey on top of Box Hill, a fairly short drive up a lovely if speed hump infested hill with a plethora of hairpin bends. Cracking view from the top, too, but that's for another review. As to Rykas themselves, no tricks missed. Well worth a stop off but be warned, they close (along with the toilets) at a...
Read moreI'll start with the positives, I absolutely love this place, the location is perfect, the atmosphere and staff are always brilliant and the new decor looks great. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the new menu and it is very disappointing. After midday it seems to be only burgers available now, no more jacket potatoes, panini's or baguettes. Apart from the lack of choice the burger I had yesterday was probably the worst and possibly one of if not the most expensive burger I've ever had. Pathetically small slab of meat, very stingy amount of salad, overpowering or perhaps too much burger sauce, onions looked and tasted like bits of old shoelace and it was all in one of those silly little brioche buns. I think a lot of great changes have been made over the past few months and it's obvious a lot of thought, time and money has gone into reviving rykas but this menu is a huge step in the wrong direction. I'll still be calling in for drinks fairly regularly but definitely won't be eating here again well not for lunch anyway but I might give the breakfasts the benefit of the doubt as the the fry ups were...
