Long Sands Beach, Tynemouth: A surfer's paradise with a family-friendly vibe
Long Sands Beach in Tynemouth is a real gem. If you're into surfing, or even just watching the surfers ride the waves, you'll love it here. It's a real hotspot for surf schools and enthusiasts alike, whatever the weather. Honestly, even in the dead of winter, I've seen people braving the cold in wetsuits, with the occasional crazy kid going for a swim. Personally, I'm more of a "keep your coat on" type of person when it's chilly, but it's nice to see such passion for the waves.
It's a different scene at weekends. The beach is spread out, so while it does get busy, especially with families and kids running around, it never feels too cramped. You can always find your own spot of sand to relax on. It's lovely for a family day out, with plenty of space for the little ones to let off steam. And even when it gets busy, the atmosphere remains relaxed and welcoming. You'll get that real seaside feel.
Now for the not so great bits. As someone who prefers a bit of peace and quiet, the weekend crowds can sometimes be a bit much, especially if you're after a peaceful stroll. And let's not forget the classic British weather - if you're planning a visit, be prepared for wind and the occasional downpour. But if you can brave it, the views and atmosphere will more than make up for it. All in all, Long Sands is a great beach for surfers and families alike - just don't forget...
