Nantclwyd Y Dre is situated among Castle Street's period properties off St Peter's Square in Ruthin The historic building is Wales's oldest dated timbered town house according to Denbighshire County Council and is protected as a Grade 1 listed building.

While doing Open Doors, we popped in here. Absolutely amazed, not what I was expecting. A great example of a wattle and daub structure. Wander around and look at the collection they have. You can use an audio guide if you wish. The gardens are brilliant. Didn't expect to find a large garden. Fruit trees, flowers etc. We had a discount off our entry fee as we had come from the Gaol. A beautiful old house, started in the late Middle Ages, and added to and remodelled over the centuries. The house’s history is reflected in the way that different rooms are set out as they would have been in different periods, with explanations both on display panels and also by way of a free audio guide.
