Nantclwyd Y Dre is situated among Castle Street's period properties off St Peter's Square in Ruthin The historic building is Wales's oldest dated timbered town house according to Denbighshire County Council and is protected as a Grade 1 listed building. The building dates from 1435 and has served a few purposes in its time including judges' accommodation. The building features several architecturally important component including a pillared porch. Today, the property is open to the public as a historic house/museum and serves as a backdrop to summer outdoor theatre/events.

While doing Open Doors, we popped in here. Absolutely amazed, not what I was expecting. A great example of a wattle and daub structure. Wander around and look at the collection they have. You can use an audio guide if you wish. The gardens are brilliant. Didn't expect to find a large garden. Fruit trees, flowers etc. We had a discount off our entry fee as we had come from the Gaol. Refreshments at the end, it's a help yourself and leave a donation. Small gift shop and toilets. A warm welcome from lovely staff.

A beautiful old house, started in the late Middle Ages, and added to and remodelled over the centuries. The house’s history is reflected in the way that different rooms are set out as they would have been in different periods, with explanations both on display panels and also by way of a free audio guide. Most interesting. The garden is also lovely, and surprisingly large for its town-centre site. 20% off if you have also visited Ruthin Gaol (or vice versa). Open Thursday to Saturday only.
