We were hoping for a nice relaxing evening. A nice meal and an early night as we had both had a very long day. Unfortunately it was not to be. ROOM 105 was very cold. We couldn’t be moved to another room as the hotel was full. The toilet seat was very loose but was fixed very quickly. Then I used the toilet and it wouldn’t stop flushing. I went down to the hotel and a member of staff came up to look. Unfortunately she had no tools and was unable to fix it. A plumber was called. We heard nothing for over an hour. No updates were given. And I sat with my coat on in the cold room. We rang for an update at 8pm. We were told the plumber wouldn’t be there until 9:30pm. He eventually arrived at 9:40. He tried to fix it but parts were needed so we were left with an unusable loo. How on earth he could see in the extremely poorly lit bathroom I don't know. As I said previously No other rooms were available so we were stuck in a cold room with no working loo. By the time the plumber left it was getting very late (so much for our early night). All through the night a gate or door was banging outside. (So much for a relaxing evening). In the morning I opened the broken curtains, they were not connected to the rail, only to find the reason the room was SO cold was a huge gap in the sash window. This was also the cause of knocking all night!! Unfortunately a small amount of red wine was spilled in the room on the sheet and mattress protector. I can buy a mattress protector for less than £10. Or, here’s a novel idea - wash it!! After all the clue is in the name! Or claim on your insurance. I am sure you have insurance don’t you? We were told when we complained that we would be refunded the cost of the room. They have now reneged on this due to the spillage. It had taken several calls from us to get to this point. The gap in the sash window was so big that I could slide the Wetherspoons magazine into it with ease. I...
Read moreThis is the 3rd time that I have eaten at this Weatherspoons only to be disappointed again. I ordered a halloumi burger and my friend a curry. I didn’t think that they could go far wrong this time, however… my chips were going cold, had black bits from the fat and some were slightly undercooked, my burger was ok but not the spicy 🌶️ 🌶️ as advertised. My friend said their curry was ok but was served onion bhajis that were so burnt that I actually asked what they were. They were not only very burnt but also very greasy. I told the member of staff that they shouldn’t have been served that burnt but my friend was hungry and ate them. Sometimes it’s really inconvenient to send food back when you need to eat! The member of staff told me that the bhajis were greasy because they were deep fried, I responded that all bhajis are deep fried! He admitted that they were burnt. No offer of making any recompense and I didn’t ask. Later he told my friend that they get it said a lot that the bhajis are burnt! I also asked for another spoon to share dessert and it was brought to us without an extra serviette… 🤷♀️ The staff are friendly enough and obviously work hard but maybe inexperienced serving good food. My previous meal I had here was served cold but that’s another story. I have enjoyed many a meal in other Weatherspoon pubs but this one lets the chain down in my opinion. Unfortunately it is the closest one to my home and I gave it one last chance, but I wouldn’t...
Read moreWent for lunch and spent 10 minutes searching through the allergen menu because staff aren't allowed to advise on allergens. Ordered a steak and informed the bar staff of it being for a coeliac person. He made a note of it on the till order and also passed it onto the supervisor who verbally communicated it to the kitchen too.||Steak came out with onion rings on which the waitress didn't know if they were GF or not. She went to check and her words were 'it says yes next to the gluten column, but I don't know if that means it has gluten or not' and informed us that staff aren't allowed to give allergen advice so I looked myself and they weren't GF.||Having absolutely no faith in the kitchen staff to be able to safely prepare an allergen free meal I spoke with the supervisor who was extremely apologetic and was refunded.||Seems insane that a business thinks it's a safer option to not train up staff on food safety really well, and just fob off customers to an allergen chart. Maybe the kitchen staff would take it more seriously if there was a culture amongst all staff to prepare food as safely as possible? Especially when there are separate menus for dietary CHOICES of veganism and vegetarianism. Being coeliac or having an allergy isn't a choice and it's crap enough having to miss out on loads of foods as it is. At least try and get it right on the stuff we are told...
