Thoroughly recommend a walk round Blackleach during winter months. It's a oot quieter than usual & there's usually more to see with over wintering birds & some of the weed in reservoir dying off. Alot of work goes on to create habitats for some bird species & to generally tidy up. This winter there seems to be more birds than ever with usual winter visitors of tufted ducks. Also a small colony of Shovelers which I've not seen before. Plenty of Canada geese, mallards etc & the resident pairs of swans trying to chase off this years cygnets. Well worth a winters...
Read moreIt's hard to think of it as a country park as there is little sense that it is managed. There are few signs and those that exist relate to the Linear Walkways or bylaws and don't really provide much information or sense of direction. The new paths are nice but the old paths that still exist lead nowhere. But it is green space and for that I am grateful. I just wish the bins were no so overfilled and the rubbish not so prevalent - the tipping from the houses that back onto the pack is obscene and the rubbish from fires/parties in some places defied...
Read moreRelax, stretch your legs, and get a breath of fresh-air along the many paths through the woods and around the lake. Most of the paths have been recently re-surfaced, making it safe even if the weather has been unfavourable. The few un-surfaced paths are best avoided with pushchairs/wheelchairs and cycles due to potential mud and uneven terrain. Very popular with dog-walkers. The Linnyshaw Loopline passes through the park for those seeking a longer expedition. The children's play area could use some improvement...
