Lowrys cafe — Restaurant in Salford

Quite difficult to give a rating as we have been attending this place for breakfast every Saturday for around a year, always found the food to be great and the service has been second to none. However, today, my husband found a hair in his breakfast (accidents happen) but it was the handling of this by the kitchen staff that I found unacceptable. They claimed we was lying (and said it was eggshell... it wasn't, but even so, does that make it better!?). They advised the counter staff (who are always great btw) not to knock anything off our bill. We wasn't in it for a free breakfast, we're really not that desperate, but for people working in hospitality, it was handled appalling. The chef said it had never happened before (it had, we had a cup with a hair on a few months back) and he didn't know how it had happened and what could he do? When I pointed out that it happened because no one was wearing hair nets, and by wearing them, that may prevent it happening again, he replied "No they get hot!" Apologies to the girls on the counter, they were clearly embarrassed by being made to handle the complaint, which was why we approached the kitchen staff ourselves. At least have the courage to stand by your conviction and come out to address the customers yourselves instead of hiding behind young ladies. We won't be visiting again, but this is based on the handling of the issue, and is not based on the food, atmosphere or the attentiveness of the counter staff, it's purely down to the kitchen...

This place has been part of my youth growing up, It seems that what once was a well looked after and well run establishment is now being left to poor front of house staff with no professionalism and no care.

The Food is absolutely fine, I have no complaints with Presentation and Taste.

The Service however....Well! Unprofessional and Untidy appearance doesn't bode well, especially when your order is being taken from a Teenager who's dressed like they're hanging around an estate. Where are the Black Shirts, Trousers and Aprons?! Presentation and attitude is everything!

Tables were left dirty for longer than 30 minutes before lazily being "cleaned", Customers seating themselves AT Dirty tables waiting to be served.

The Place has fallen from grace massively and needs massive improvement! Bring back the original staff that actually cared about their customers rather than their Instagram followers... 2 stars only because of the Food...

It's either roasting hot or freezing cold due to the location, food was ok, but disappointing that hash browns are available on the menu but have to be ordered separately for a breakfast. Overpriced, but that's because the landlords are greedy. Very echoy so can be difficult to hold a conversation. Staff too busy chatting so trying to get their attention was difficult, and they were clearly not talking about work because items listed on the dessert menu were not available and our waitress had to come back to tell us, openly admitting that she hadn't been told. As dessert are written on mini chalkboards, it isn't difficult for someone to remove them, but Jo, the unavailable items were still listed when we left. Overall a disappointing experience. You'd be better going 200 yards down the road to Hug in a Mug where there is a much better atmosphere and better...
