Great place for a walk about in the sunshine, brilliant for wheelchair access as it’s a huge area that’s all flat and paved, and pathways are kept in reasonable order. Lots of kids and dogs about on a sunny day, esp weekends; worth bearing in mind for owners of nervous dogs - on greyer days, the park is usually very quiet during the daytime though.
Lots of interesting historical interest points, as well as the excellent People’s Palace (closed as at July ‘24, but scheduled for reopening later this year)
Frequent large-crowd events, such as Race for Life etc, culminate in arrival at the Green, and it is sometimes partially closed to public access at weekends as a result - highly recommend that you check online to make sure this isn’t the case if planning to visit to prevent getting stuck in inevitable jammed-up traffic!
In addition to the fantastic level access throughout, there is ample disabled parking available on the NNW side, along...

It’s also quite busy, which I feel takes away from the atmosphere a bit. I’d say it’s worth visiting if you have kids or are interested in The People’s Palace, otherwise it’s overrated and empty.
I’m giving 4 stars instead of 3 however because I feel like it’s emptiness is understandable, given some of the great...
