Glasgow's streets are kinda quiet at 9 am on a Saturday morning, so I was stunned to walk in and find this place buzzing.
It’s spacious, but when we visited even where there weren’t seats and tables, people were standing chatting. I think the local running club was in - seeing positive, friendly folk in a place is always a good sign.
Anyway, a lot to take in on arrival, so thank you to the friendly waitress who spotted us (or probably just me) looking a bit 😲 and took us over to a table... apologies for getting distracted by the mouth watering pastries, cakes, breads etc on display on the way to the table, but the apple turnovers and huge vegan sausage rolls in particular caught my eye.
Tap water was served at the table which I didn’t expect. Scotland's water is the best and I thought they were maybe also taking this opportunity to show-off their very cool looking, Parisian jug and glasses, but thinking about it later, coffee being a diuretic, water ensures customers stay hydrated and refreshed. So in my mind, this place cares about its customers. Bonus star for that.
Cappuccino and breakfast tea ordered (good selection of teas by the way) we took in the art on the walls and watched the staff busily making breads and other tasty looking things. I'm not sure if they were testing the sound setup or if the guy there's a resident DJ, but the tunes played helped balance the lively chatter.
The barista served our coffee (which was top notch) and tea (in a very well designed black teapot). We’d have stayed longer if we could have. I’m not sure what I liked most, but the staff were exceptional. An amazing coffee & tea experience in just...
Read morePretty dire experience. We were seated quickly but told it would be a while for food as they were almost full, we were happy to wait. The waitress came to take our drinks order and we got them soon after, one drink was wrong but it wasn’t a big deal, just the wrong flavour. When she took our food order we realised that she had misunderstood the order so went to correct it before she placed the order. We then saw our waitress head out for a break. We waited quite a long time for our food, we knew this would be the case, but when it arrived it was incorrect and not even the order that the waitress originally tried to place. There was no apology for the mistake and no one let us know how long the missing dish would be. We weren’t given any cutlery for the food we did receive so had to go ask for it. This wasn’t delivered until we got the missing dish, so all the other food had gone cold before we were equipped to eat it. We were given one knife and fork and two napkins between three of us. The waitress who dropped off the missing sandwich said she’d be back with more napkins and cutlery and we also asked for some more water. We ate all our food which was really nice but no one else approached the table, by this time the place was empty. We didn’t receive any more napkins or the water we asked for. Our waitress returned from her break to take the payment and we were thanked on the way out the door but it’s honestly some of the worst service we’ve received in Glasgow. I’d recommend takeaway as the food was really good but my advice to anyone looking to sit it would...
Read moreTried Outlier on a Saturday night and though it's a well known place for breakfast and lunch I'd never been and was going in blind as to what to expect from the food. Well I was absolutely blown away, this was easily one of the best meals I've had for years. Chicken fat oysters and potato bread to get things going were amazing. The bread tasted like it was just out of the oven and the oyster with chicken fat was rich and salty. The BBQ cabbage was one of the best things I've eaten in a very long time, how they're getting that much flavour in to a vegetable dish is a real skill. The bass dish was like a ceviche, popping with citrus flavours and loaded generously with cured fish, it was amazing. The cod dish with horseradish cream sauce was also incredible with lots of flaky cod and a sauce that's so good you want to just drink it straight from the jug. The chef was also kind enough to send over the BBQ leek with sambal dish to try and it was also really good and absolutely packed with flavour from the sambal and a slight smoky char from the leeks. The cheese waffle with honey was the perfect end to the meal, soft gooey cheese with a sweetness from the honey and the lightest waffle I've ever had. It's byob so next time will definitely take a bottle of wine in but they have a good choice of soft drinks and coffees too. The service was excellent and the tunes were superb creating a cool atmosphere. One of the coolest restaurants in Glasgow at the moment and one of the most talented kitchens in the...
