My friend and I were feeling hungry and I was vaguely aware of this place, having stopped by briefly to grab a coffee once before but I didn't sit in to eat anything, so it was about time I gave it a try with someone!
I was a little confused over the way the service operated (do we wait to be seated or seat ourselves? We ended up seating ourselves), but I blame that on my social awkwardness more than anything. Everyone working there is incredibly warm, friendly, and helpful, and this helped me feel welcomed. The atmosphere of the place is very relaxed and pleasant as well, which was a nice way to wind down towards the end of the active day my friend and I had.
Since most chippies in Glasgow use grease that I can't consume, I always make sure to ask what oil food is fried in whenever I dine out. It was from asking about this that I was told that the entire menu is vegan! I blame myself for not being very observant, I'm sure it was written somewhere but I just didn't see it. I'm used to struggling to find something safe to eat whenever I dine out, it was nice to be spoiled for choice for once! (Putting aside my allergies and other food intolerances: There is allergy information available if you ask).
I ended up having the tofish and chips, and my friend had garlic bread with chips, along with pot of tea for two of us. The food was very delicious and the portion size was very generous for the price, I did end up having to take my leftovers home. I particularly liked whatever blend of seasoning the tofu was marinated in to give it that taste, and my friend also tells me they enjoyed their food as well.
I want to add that my friend did use the bathroom facilities during this visit, and tells me that it was unisex, which felt welcoming and inclusive.
The only criticism I have is that we did visit when it wasn't too busy, but it still took a long time for anyone to get around to letting us pay. Despite this, I still fully intend on returning and introducing other people to this place. I know of a couple of vegans who should like the range of options...
Read moreNot for coeliacs: booked online on the basis of a menu which had a good range of GF options or "can be made GF" options available. Made a reservation stating two coeliacs. Turned up and the menu has changed the week before (fair enough). Problem being that this one is much more stingy on the GF options, especially if you don't like artichokes. The menu has also had multiple versions printed which have different allergens on each version, and have thoughtfully printed the allergens in yellow on the one with more allergens marked on, meaning you can't read it. Get ignored for a bit at the door, eventually shown to a table, then ignored at the table, so decide to go to the bar and ask about the special, because obviously it's not marked on the board what allergens are in it. Ask for a cocktail. Get told they don't do that one anymore and they "need to wipe it off", which they then proceed to not do so the next person tries to order the same cocktail. I raise my concern that there aren't a lot of allergens marked on the menu and that it's a bit inconsistent. Told they will "ask the kitchen". Wait a while, then the bar tender informs me of literally nothing new and still doesn't clarify what is GF. Ask about something that looks like it has a G on one version but not another. Told they will ask the kitchen again. Wait a bit more. Finally get a menu marked up with what is actually GF. Ask what a "gluten free" version of some dishes are and THEN discover that they are just the same dish, but with the gluten bit taken out e.g. no fish tacos where instead of an easily available gf corn taco, they just dump the taco filling on a plate (admittedly I did fail to establish whether you have the pleasure of being charged the same for this reduced option). Go back to the table. Get ignored a bit more. Decide to go somewhere else. Leave while being ignored. You are allowed to change your menu. You are not allowed to not clearly mark allergens and have staff who are rude, dismissive and have no interest in knowing what the allergens are in what they...
Read morePoor food and service. Nasty toilets. sticky tables. wasn't a fan of mono sadly. Was really looking forward to it. The place needs a good deep clean by the looks of it. The drinks were very watered down- we said to the waitress and she replaced them , but wasn't happy about it. Got the impression the staff didn't want to serve us. My hotdog came with mustard, the way that the menu is laid out makes it look like the hotdog comes plain and you can add extras like onion etc for an additional price. I explained to the waitress that i can't have mustard and she was not happy. Said it was on the menu that it has mustard. The hotdog was returned to me , with the mustard rinsed off.... i know this as there was mustard on the paper it was served on, and the hotdog itself was cold and wet. the bun was soggy. My pal didn't eat his garlic bread as he said it was pretty bad. ( we're both vegan by the way... so used to vegan-tasting food if you get me. We understand vegan garlic bread might taste different to one made with dairy... its just that it was bad. )
When i went to the toilet, i had to try 4 different cubicles before i found one without YUK in it ( i'll spare you the details) . However, the door was broken. the mirrors at the sinks have weird messages about uteruses etc. When my pal went to the toilet , the waitress slammed the bill on the table. We hadn't asked for the bill... we might have wanted coffee.. they really didn't want to serve us.
My mum and her pals also visited this place ( but we hadn't realised it was Mono they'd gone to until after we went) my mum said the vegan pizza was disgusting. she couldn't eat it. Shes also vegan..
Also, theres an odd mix of church and Pizza hut chairs ? whats...
