Disappointing trip to Van Winkle.
We tried to book into firehouse but it was fully booked, so googled more bbq restaurants and this came up. Reviews were good so thought we would try it out. It’s not a BBQ so don’t be fooled. We were the only ones in on a Saturday night so that tells a story.
The staff were so friendly and the place looks great inside.. even the kitchen staff were really nice. 10/10 for service and smiles.
When it comes to the food…
We ordered kids buttermilk chicken tenders:
Barely any batter on them and the bits that were left was soggy. My son rated it 1/10 and never ate a thing.
Kids macaroni. This was microwaved or left in a pot. The cream had split and the cheese had curdled. I always dad tax the kids meals before they eat it to try out everything. I would feed this to my dog it was so bad.
We also ordered the roast potatoes with pepper sauce chives and chilli flakes. They’re just frozen potatos but it was a good combo. 6/10 these and it was the best thing on the table
We ordered lemon pepper chicken wings. These would have been the best thing on the table if they didn’t drown it in that much lemon pepper seasoning that they were completely inedible with salt and lemon flavours. None of the table could eat them.
Pulled pork burger - my wife loved the pulled pork she said it was delicious. The burger it’s self, not so much. Totally unseasoned and tiny pattys
I got a huge burger can’t remember the name of it but it was about £28. Again, totally unseasoned and pattys tiny and overcooked. A total shame.
Overall it was £100 wasted I’d have been better throwing it down the drain it was so bad.
The server asked my 5 year old at the end how her macaroni was and she said bad with a thumbs down lol! We laughed at this cos she told them the truth.
Again all staff were lovely and a really nice venue, but train your chefs to a higher standard and how to actually cook meats and season them properly or you won’t exist very long if you keep putting that food out.
Really wanted to like it, but almost all the food was uneaten.
Would I try it again? Unfortunately never...
Read moreSadly didn't have a great experience here last week. They were obviously under-staffed and the guys who were there were trying their best but there were other issues that levitate my conscious when giving a lower star review. I had the bacon cheeseburger which promises 2 3oz burgers with bacon, cheese, salad and burger sauce. I got 2 thin overcooked patties in an oversized bun, little bit of lettuce and minimal sauce. That paired with some cold fries made the whole meal really sad. Another person at my table said they thought their burgers was actually just one cut through the middle but I didnt check mine to confirm. My husband, who is trying meat free at the moment, only had the choice of mac and cheese or halloumi burger (not complaining about lack of choice here as he knew what he was getting himself in for at a BBQ joint) and went for the mac which was creamy but bland. He was also disappointed there was no crumb as per the menu. Another person at our table ordered the mac and cheese loaded fries which was almost exactly the same as the main portion of mac and cheese with fries but was £4 cheaper and included in a 3 for £12 deal. Another ordered a chilli cheese dog and ended up with a chilli burger.
So overall, was really looking forward to some good grub but left really disappointed. There is just too many good burger places in Glasgow to want to come back to try...
Read moreCame in off the cuff, wasn't planned but it was a pleasant surprise. The football was on that day so place was pretty busy, something definitely to be aware of as others came in afterwards and had to sit outside in their covered area.
We got 10 wings, buttermilk tenders, pulled pork with fries and onion rings.
The wings were a great size, none of these tiny half sized ones but the full thing, they were fried with a crust and coated with sauce of your choice. I went with classic buffalo and it was good. It also came with a nice blue cheese dipping sauce and some celery sticks. This was a messy dish but very nice, very happy for the £13
The onion rings were a good portion, they looked oily so took them out their dish and put them on a plate with a napkin to make sure, they were in fact very crispy and stayed crispy the entire time. Actually up there with some of the best I've had so bravo.
The Mrs had Tenders and pulled pork fries, never tried the tenders but the pulled pork was nice and smoky. Wasn't just a soggy mess that so many are so that was good. Fries were a bit meh though
Had a pint of shandy since was driving, really enjoyed it. Nice and refreshing but a fiver for a pint of T😬 defo not going to be a cheap place to drink...
