A nice little park, with a big history.
Originally the grounds of a mill, the layout of the mill pond and water course is still visible despite it having been demolished over a century ago. Used more recently for a private dwelling, the land has been open to the public for years.
Built in 1840, the house and estate were bought by the town council in 1911 to form the park. The house was used as a hospital during the First World War, but after a number of years of misuse, it was demolished in 1963, being replaced by the shelter that still stands.

Read moreA lovely day out, the cafe building was open and airy. The staff were warm and friendly and the artwork was nice to walk around. Stall outside was good information in the background, without being in your face.
The play area for the children appears safe in a fenced area although disappointed to see dogs in that area. For children afraid of doge it would not be a safe place to play. Especially when there is plenty of seating around the play area, there is no need to bring doge inside the gate area.
