Using an innovative 360 projection with audio, the centre tells the story of a migit submarine, from construction in the early 1950s to it's now unusual housing in a smallish building in Helensburgh. The submarine in question is HMS X51 Stickleback, which sits on plinths above the audience, as they immerse themselves in the story. There is a small shop for souvenirs and toilets. The submarine can only be viewed externally disappointingly, but the projections do show and explain the internal workings. The film projection is perhaps a little long, particularly for those not totally immersed in submarine technology. What the centre offers is the innovative 360 projection, not a chance to view in person the inside of a submarine. In the one room is the midget submarine from and pretty much nothing else…..and then the show began. It was absolutely terrific, captivating, fascinating, outstanding use of the projectors in the room and so interactive. I’ve never been in a museum which presents its story in such a way before, and I’ll be going back again with family & friends when they visit as well. What a gem of a place! I went on a Thursday mid morning and was the only soul in there. I enjoyed the coffee I’d brought in with me during the presentation. The staff was very accommodating and allowed us a late entry, ensuring we could still enjoy the experience. The center is also within walking distance of shops and cafes, where we were able to get a nice cup of tea afterward.
