Hi, I've been to a few scotkart sessions at both the Clydebank and Cambuslang sites and this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review.
I was phoned on the saturday before the session I'd booked, which was odd but the reason for the call was explained to me i.e. there is refurb work ongoing and you need to use a different door, fine, understood, we were also told to wrap up well as it would be cold, which was odd.
The site was indeed being refurbished, frankly it looked like a building site with loose mains cables trailing from the ceiling in the "reception" area, fibreglass insulation poking through spaces missing tiles in the suspended ceiling and it was freezing cold due to the absence of any meaningful door to the carpark aka - the outside, the industrial heaters were for a building site, not a commercial operation charging patrons £30+ per person. This isn't really acceptable, particularly considering that the majority of the work being done appeared to be on the "party rooms".
We were booked in and went through the briefing/suiting process. The session was supposed to be a "family" session, however of the 12 participants, only 2 were parents, the majority were kids (7-8 years?) on a birthday party or similar, more a kids party session I would have said.
When our session started we made our way to the pits, got our kart number and then got into our karts, the briefing had explained the need to demonstrate the ability to stop/go on command and this process began, it took over a third of our session time to eventually get onto the track, this isn't acceptable, particularly considering how much is charged for the session.
When we were actually under way, the majority of the first session track time was spent under either a yellow light or red light, stopped (one kid crashed his kart and was so upset he couldn't continue), I think I counted a total of 4 laps under a green light, which, quite frankly was not what I had paid for.
One of the parents was chatting with me during the sessions and commented on how few green light laps there were as well and how much he'd paid for his two sons to attend.
The second session was a bit better, the kids had got the hang of the karts and we had far fewer yellows, although, the kids understanding of the yellow lights could have been better, I personally was T-boned by one kid.
At the end of the day we would have had a better experience if we had known that the first session was mainly complete novices who may have been better suited to a dedicated session where they could learn the ropes, my daughter, brother and I have been a few times and can make progress on the track, we were all frustrated with the; slow start, high number of yellow/red lights, low level of competence of the other kids and the freezing cold reception area.
Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback, I look forward to...
Read moreThe experience was outstanding! You're never going to get a white knuckle, seat of the pants racing experience like it. Unfortunately, I was so excited I forgot about the yellow light test, and wondered why everyone was slowing down...I soon knew when a Track Marshall read me the riot act for driving at speed when yellow was showing - his approach was correct, his instructions were clear, and I couldn't have been more sorry for forgetting the safety rules in my 57 year old excitement. That is not a mistake to make AT ALL, I'm glad the Marshall nailed it so professionally with me. He gave me one more chance, and all was well. I'm only saying this because I realised the gravity and implications of my initial forgetful excitement on the track were dangerous, and my respect for that Track Marshall laying it on the line for me was complete. So if you go, keep a level head, get to know the track, go as fast as you can, you are going to have a completely memorable experience, really (!), but comply with the rules set out in the introductory video, they are there for ultimate safety and in fact make the Time Trials or races more exciting. VERDICT: Great place, great staff, helmets for use are of Sport quality, the real deal, tricky but fulfilling track with a crossover bridge, fast as hell, safe, thumb-ball numbing precision in the unpowered steering, you've got to be on it, there you go, not for the fainthearted, you won't forget it. I'll...
Read moreThe track is good fun, when you can finally get on it. We were left waiting well over an hour for our time on the track with everyone who came through the doors going on before us. We asked a few times only to be told they were running late. The staff were nice enough but made no effort to really explain or give us an idea of when we were to be racing. By the time we did get on the track my 10 year old was extremely tired and fed up and had to be removed from the track as he was so upset. To the staffs credit, they were very kind and patient with my son at that time. After our first go we were told we could have another 15 mins and my son decided he wanted to give it a go this time. I was then told when I went to book him in that we would be waiting another 40 minutes. I decided to just leave as this was ludicrous after waiting so long the first time. I did not notice any other party waiting as long as we did so I don't understand why we were to wait over everyone else. We were given a free pass (which was just a business card) to use on a monday - friday (I work these days so not ideal) but we will see if that holds up as there's no identifying details on it other than the date. My son badly wants to return and try again but I have major concerns over being made to wait that length of time again as he spent the entire night absolutely devastated that he didn't get to try it...
