Absolutly disgusting experience! I went for a bike ride and decided to stop for lunch. As I was cycyling, I wasn't dressed elegantly, waterproof sporty jacket, jeans and old sneakers. Before taking a seat I have asked for gluten free options and a soup of the day. I took a seat and waited for someone to take my order. But lady who arrived didn't ask me what I would to like have for my lunch. She looked at me and said "let me guess, soup with gluten free bread". I was absolutly shocked. What she was saying I would translate to: from how you look like I know that you will order just a soup. I denaided and I have ordered coronation chicken open sandwich with the bowl of soup. Food was as bad as the service. Soup - green split pea - was actually brown, canned pea soup is more green than what I got! who knows how old it was. Sandwich was made with the most disgusting and the cheapest gluten free bread from supermarket, something what I would never buy. Coronation chicken was dry and just avarage. Salad mixed of green leaves with pieces of cucamber and 3 small pieces of dried tomatoes but ... served without any dressing or olive oil. I wasn't offer any salad dressing and there was nothing on a table. Just dry green leaves - is that a joke? I left the soup and a quite a lot on a plate and I went to pay. At the till the same lady who took my order now took my payment without asking if I have enjoyed my meal or if everything was okey. How often does it happend that staff "forget to ask"? obviously she did it intentionally. I only wonder if that was just because I wasn't dressed elegantly enough for her to care about my feedback or she just knew that I left quickly leaving most of the food so she knew I didn't enjoy it and didn't want to hear negative feed back. I do not know what was worse, food or service. I will definitely not go back there and I will advise everyone...
Read moreThis is a lovely place. We booked online the night before and had no issues entering the next day. We entered the shop and was greeted by two members of staff, who were really nice and welcoming. I gave them my name and they ticked us off the list. The man who worked there gave us a map and information on the museum before we entered. He was lovely and very helpful. When we entered the museum we were greeted by a 6 minute video discussing the history of the Black Watch uniforms. We then made our way around all the different rooms. There is lots of information about the history of the Black Watch as well as memorabilia to look at. It took us a good hour to get round after reading all the information in each room. By the time we came out, it had started raining, so we decided to go for a coffee in the cafe. We were greeted by a lady who said all the tables were fully booked up but she would see what she could do. She set us up a table that wasn't being used, which was really good. We only stopped for a drink. At this point it was hammering it down with rain and water was leaking through the cafe ceiling. I told one of the waitresses it was leaking and she just grunted at me and walked off. So on my way out, I told the lady who seated us and she was thankful that I told her and she was going to sort it out. Overall, it's a really good visit and definitely worth the time to go and see. The museum bit isnt really good for very young children as they wouldn't find it interesting but there is a park right next door. Only reason I have given it 4 stars and not 5 is because we didn't feel the cafe staff were as friendly and welcoming as the museum...
Read moreI "had" to visit the Castle and Museum as a member of staff at Culloden had spotted earlier this year that I was wearing the colours of The Black Watch at that time. I didn't know so I was going to buy a new scarf. Also a friend asked me to do some research, there. Both members of staff on reception deserve a favourable mention. One asked if I wanted to leave my small bag of drinks in the "back office" while I went around the place. She, or maybe both, took the photos of me there. The other one took it on board to book a taxi from their list of local contacts, for my trip into town. It turned out to be the same firm and one of the drivers I had seen the previous day. I was picked up from the entrance to the Castle and Museum. It is customer service like that which helps improve the day even if help is not needed. I said that I wanted to do some research relating to the First World War, was then given a map and the appropriate room was indicated on that map. There is a lift, which could be most helpful on my back down. When the time came, I opted to walk down a spiral staircase rather than look for the lift. The staircase was much wider than the one I had seen the day before AND carpeted. Even the walk that I had chosen to get me to the Museum improved my sense of well being as it briefly took me alongside the river. I'll leave it to you to decide which of the two photos of me sitting down you prefer. If this suits your taste, it is a lovely place to visit. It worked...
