Underestimated and little publicised gem near the centre of Sheffield. Dating back to 1816,it remained a working port up till 1970. The previously thriving area fell into disrepair and ruin until a complete restoration in the early 90's. The main entrance near the park square roundabout lead's you along a cobbled pathway, first is the original main building which has been lovingly re-devoleped into office's, and then along to the left are arches which have been turned into a variety of shop's and eateries, complete with a bar. To the right the beginning of the canal which is home to a number of canal boats.

It is a hidden gem in the city where there are canal and boats! You can not imagine there is a hidden port near the city center! There are many boats, some are nice and cute ones. Also you can see the beautiful sky if it is sunny and the hill far on top. It is like a painting that you can see in gallery. There are also some shops which it was closed when I arrive. I can imagine it is gonna be so nice to sit and enjoy the canal and boat in the summer!!

Victoria Quays canal basin is just a short walk from Sheffield city centre and you will feel like you are miles away. Nice bit of peace and quiet whether you fancy just a sit down and chill or grab a drink from one of the pubs or a snack from the cafe. If you want to stretch your legs, you can take a really nice walk as far as you like really, Meadowhall, Rotherham, or loop around via the river Don back to the city.

Constructed in 1819 as Sheffield's link to the sea via the Humber, Victoria Quays was originally a bustling freight port. Now, it is a peaceful marina for canal boats at the terminus of the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal. The cobbled streets and mostly original buildings give the location a historic feel. There are many benches and several places to eat too.

Totally hidden or under rated place in Sheffield City. What a beautiful place for a walk, drink or having fun with family and friends. Cafe, drink places, boats, dog walks, canal walk, plenty of options for relaxing time. It's open 24hrs so anyone can go whatever time you want according to your schedule. Really enjoyed my walk. So relaxing and peaceful.

The next area about to be regenerated in Sheffield. There is a interesting urban ecology where the river Don meets the Porter brook. The derelict remains of the Market Tavern show how important this place was.. and the last few units of Castle Market are now occupied with underground clubs and music studios where a new cultural DiY scene flourishes
