The Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, commonly known as the Sheffield Cathedral, is a magnificent piece of history and architecture. Located in the heart of Sheffield, this stunning cathedral dates back to the 12th century and has undergone many changes and additions over the years.
As you approach the cathedral, the first thing you'll notice is the imposing gothic architecture, with its towering spire and intricate stone carvings. The entrance is impressive, with grand stone arches and a beautiful wooden door. Once inside, you'll be struck by the sheer size of the cathedral - it's truly awe-inspiring.
The interior is just as stunning as the exterior. The nave is vast and open, with soaring stone columns and beautiful stained-glass windows. The intricate stonework and carvings are truly a sight to behold. The cathedral has a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, and it's easy to lose yourself in the beauty and history of the building.
One of the highlights of the cathedral is the choir. The choir stalls are intricately carved and have been restored to their original beauty. The acoustics in the cathedral are outstanding, and the choir's singing is truly breathtaking. Attending a choral service in the cathedral is a must-do for any visitor to Sheffield.
Another highlight is the famous lantern tower. This is a unique feature of the cathedral, and it's an impressive sight to see. The tower is made of glass and allows natural light to flood into the cathedral, creating a beautiful and ethereal effect.
The cathedral also has a rich history. It has been the site of many important events over the years, including the coronation of Mary Queen of Scots in 1543. The cathedral also played a key role in the industrial history of Sheffield, and the bell tower was used to signal the start and end of working hours in the local factories.

Read moreSheffield Cathedral⛪ is a beautiful Cathedral in the centre of Sheffield busy town centre. Around the back is The Archer Project which is where I visited. They make cooked meals and have coffee and tea making facilities (all for a small donation) 🍽️☕🍛 for people who are homeless, having problems with their benefits,👛👝 people who havnt much money and/or people who havnt much to do so want somewhere to go to get out of the house for a few hours and meet new people. They provide showers🚿💦👕👖🧦👟 and clean clothing too. When I went there was a 🍕 woman and man in a movable pizza shop. They were giving away freshly made and cooked pizzas. They were absolutely delicious!!👌🏻💜 The Archer Project also have computers💻🖥️🖨️⌨️🖱️ for the service users to use and they have activities📚🖌️📝 that you can join free of charge. They also put a film on in the afternoon.🎥🎞️📀📺 The staff are very helpful and welcoming.😊👍🏻👱♀️🧓👱♂️👴 They can help you with anything and if you're having problems with your benefits they'll help you with a food parcel and will also provide a hot meal for you too.🍴🍲 I also have been before when my benefits had been stopped. I was provided with a hot😊🍴🍲 meal and a food parcel🥐🌭🥪🍝🍛 which I was more than thankful for as I had nothing in my cupboards as I was really badly struggling due to my benefits being stopped! Also there are professionals from Framework-Sheffields Homeless Team and people who help you with benefit advice and any other problems you might be having. The Archer Project has been there for a long time and is a lovely place to go for a few hours to get out of the house, have a nice hot meal and get chatting to new people.

Read moreThis place is beautiful. An absolute gem in the heart of an amazing city. Despite being open to visitors for tours at specific times. The church retains its essence as a place of Christian worship.
The first thing that hits you, is the incredible light. The stain glass windows are extraordinary, and I have never seen a church with so many intricate stain glass designs!
It is clear that (first and foremost) this is a place of prayer. However, history buffs will be spoilt for choice at the incredible artifacts that adorn the church.
We visited just before the remembrance services in November, and I was moved to tears by the way the church had presented its memorial display.
There is a lovely little shop to the side of the church, where you can find some unique gifts for a loved one or yourself! There is also a cafe connected to its rear, serving hot food, sandwiches as well the most fantastic cakes!
I have heard that many Sheffield residents pass the cathedral daily - but have never gone inside! Trust me, give yourself a treat and go in. It is a treasure trove of history, but most importantly it is a place of prayer, that even the most spiritual skeptical could not help to...
