The Medieval Merchant's House in Southampton is a fascinating step back in time! This well-preserved 14th-century building offers a unique glimpse into medieval life. As soon as you enter, you can feel the history in the air—it's like being transported back to the Middle Ages.

The house is small, but every room is packed with interesting details, from the wooden beams to the authentic furniture and artifacts. The informative displays and knowledgeable staff help bring the history of the house and its original merchant owner to life. It’s a great place to learn about Southampton’s rich history and the role of merchants in medieval society.

I particularly enjoyed the fact that it’s not overly commercialized; it feels like a genuine historic site rather than a tourist attraction. If you appreciate history, architecture, or just enjoy exploring unique places, the Medieval Merchant's House is a must-visit. A true hidden gem in...

A total waste of 10 minutes. Spent most of my time in the toilet provided just outside the building. I certainly wouldn't pay £5 to enter. No information about the building, nothing to read, just a simple quick browse around the few rooms the building offers and that is it. I honestly don't know how English Heritage can charge for this historic building, it looks neglected and you're better off spending an extra pound to visit the Tudor House and Garden which is located in the next street along as that is a lot better value and worth your time. Avoid the Medieval Merchant House if you...

Small English Heritage Property , presented as it may have looked in it's heyday , with it's dirt floor and reproduction furniture . You are free to explore the few rooms on your own and open and inspect the reproduction furniture. Not a great deal to see and it wont take hours up of you time but this is more quality over quantity. The property has no carpark to it , but there is limited parking on the surrounding roads which is pay and display .... oh and pop round the corner the The Duke Of Wellington Pub whilst you are there , old World charm &...

Absolutely amazing visit today! It's only just re-opening more & im so grateful i found the opportunity to visit today. Beautiful reconstruction of what it would've looked like across history with interactive replicas throughout! Amazing mini second-hand book store in the front, too. Staff were super friendly and kind: they were so attentive but not pushy & helped answer questions & show the way. We even got to see the cellar! I'm glad this is starting to be open more often as it is really a true hidden gem & worth the visit for history lovers alike!
