Fantastic place especially on a rainy day with the kids. My son loves getting on all the old buses - he's only 2 but enjoys exploring the top decks and some of the cabs. There's a small cafe where you can get a brew. Lots of history in here - it's primarily a bus museum but also has some old American muscle cars, classic bikes and the odd fire engine / milk float / quirky vehicle. Of particular interest is an old British bus sold to a company in Sydney (when British buses were sold all over the world) and run there till involved in a rear end collision. Beyond economical repair, it was bought by a family who fixed it and converted it into a camper van before touring year on year all over the world - Australia, New Zealand, some parts of Africa, Europe and the UK where the bus was abandoned and eventually donated to the museum. Well worth a visit to kill a few hours with the kids or like me if you're an ex bus driver, maybe reminisce over some of the old beauties which clocked a couple of million miles before being retired - they don't make em like...
Read moreOur little boy loves buses and trains. We had the best day out!! We originally went to see Santa (2019) but this was not the best part!! We took advantage of the hourly bus ride around St Helens ~20 minutes on an old bus, we got to go into some of the old buses, see Thomas the Tank Engine going round the larger model track with lots of other trains and saw the smaller gauge model railways. All of the staff/volunteers are really friendly which made us feel very welcome. It did get a little chilly inside the old museum but we just kept out coats and hats on and nothing a hot drink from the little 'cafe' inside couldn't fix! Plenty of parking on the doorstep (pay and display but charged really reasonable). Sad the museum is temporarily closed due to COVID-19. Can't wait until...
Read moreWe've just had a brilliant afternoon here, my son loved it, he was so excited to be able to go on several of the buses that were on show and the free bus rides around St helens were an absolute highlight for us! It was great to see how transport has changed over the years especially seeing an old Crosville double decker that my 91 year old nan has spoken about, telling us about it taking her to work in Speke in the 50's. And being able to look inside one of the buses that I fondly remember getting to widnes town with my other nan when I was young during the 90's, exactly as I remembered it. My son also loved the police car and the man was very kind showing him how everything worked and giving him a police hat and jacket to wear! Will definitely be back here at some point...
