Bancroft Roman Villa — Attraction in Stantonbury

Great historical site that is in Bancroft Park in Milton keynes. I went on a tour of the site and the surrounding area, with a Park's Trust guide who was very knowledgeable of the history of the roman villa. The tour was part of the Heritage days that are held every September nationwide, so if you get an opportunity to experience a tour of Bancroft Roman Villa, please you will find it a lot more rewarding if you go on a tour, but there are information boards at the site to explain the history and, what was found when archaeologists unearthed the site. The great thing is that this is the remains of a Roman villa in Milton Keynes, which was unexpected. A park has been created around it, with a decent-sized parking area, which means you can have a good walk round and explore. Unfortunately I seem to have missed the signboards that explain the site, so I struggled to interpret the low walls (apart from the fish pond), even though I've spent a lot of time at Roman sites over the years. The villa is a piece of history. We were disappointed to be honest. I wish they had said it was an outline of a villa. We would have had a better idea and would have not expected something more built up. It is also in the middle of the park so as we were attempting to do a worksheet the dogs were running around. However I’m glad we went and the children were able (with the help of a worksheet) to picture a Roman villa.
