To get to this Gallery you need to follow the brown signs for the National Glass centre ( if driving). The Gallery is around the side down the slopes to access. The exhibition was interesting and cultural changes in Sunderland docks and changes from Tyneside to Sunderland in the last 50 years. The photos and pictures had a great description on each- like a connection with the pictures. Exhibition of Ian Mc Donald- Greatham creek Heavy industry, portraits... I totally recommend. Read moreThe NGCA is Sunderlands oldest Contemporary Art gallery. It's been going for over 50yrs! I first visited over 30 yrs ago to see an exhibition by Claes Oldenburg and have been back many times since. Such a mix of exhibitions from Manga cartoon art to sculpture, photography and painting. Big (artist) names, small names and up and coming names. Local, national and international artists. The gallery exhibitions are up there with the National Galleries and is something Sunderland should be very proud of. I sat and watched them whilst I waited - twenty minutes - for my bowl of "soup of the day", and if they washed 30% of a particular table, I'd be surprised. Crumbs and liquid left on all the tables.
