The Wolsey — Restaurant in Sunderland

First time in today. Seemed busy and there was only one man behind the bar serving and seemed run off his feet.

Was a little disappointed to not find any ale as the website says two beers are on rotation, but maybe the site is out of date? I did check several times that I couldn't see any beer hiding

Ordered food and had quite a lengthy wait. Not horrendous, but more than expected for the order we made, Might have been worth letting us know there were a lot of orders and it may take a lot while. Finished drinks and got another just as food arrived. Looking great. The chips are exceptional and worth a full star on their own. Beef baguette was ok. Not the greatest melt in the mouth beef and a little chewy but certainly edible and acceptable.

Overall a decent meal and service and would certainly go back. But a couple of minor tweaks and it could be a five star review for me.

Been here a couple times and food is amazing. Homemade can't beat it. Only thing that I didn't like about the Wolsey was 1 staff member. On 2 occasions I've been here this staff member who works in the kitchen but spends most of his time hanging around the kitchen door is very rude. It's a child friendly pub and the man continues to curse out loud at people from one side of the pub to the other. He makes nasty remarks to staff members in front of customers. He's made remarks to one of my family members about her appearance while looking her up and down referring to her as his gf later on through the meal. He made her uncomfortable to say the least she said she felt repulsed by him. I find myself not wanting to come back because I spend 80%percent of my time there scowling at the rude man refraining from chucking my food at him. To say he lacks basic manners is an understatement. Like I said food is amazing but I can't get past the Neanderthal in the kitchen...

Had a lovely cooked, brill portions and price meal. Always nice friendly atmosphere. Tonight was exceptional. Not for food, but for excellent customer care over and beyond what they could have. An old guy came in, bar staff immediately approached him to ser how he was. She sat him at a table. She explained his son had been in looking for him. No one could get him by phone, and his family were extremely anxious about him. Bar staff immediately phoned the son. Who after a few minutes dashed in to check his dad. It was lovely but sad watching this unfold. It appears the old guy is moving into a care facility on Saturday. His son sat and explained everything to him. You could see the son was anxious. Well Done to the l9vely lady bar staff. She was so caring. You would not get this type of care in the modern lub chain...
