Brilliant for kids and adults alike. There are several types of trains which are available to ride. One where you straddle the train and your legs are on outside of the train and another where you are sat on a bench with your legs inside the train. I would recommend the bench seating for the smaller kids. It's good to know the wooden benches slide forward and backwards which means the two people per carriage can both be seated facing forward, or, facing each other. As a family it's sometimes nice to face each other if you have a small child.
The trains are powered by steam engines and therefore you need to be mindful of soot when you ride or stand near the trains. The trains and the steam take you back to an era which has been lost to the new generations.
The train is seasonal and generally runs one sunday a month. It's always best to check the website before going as they do run a few days outside of the normal running schedule.
The price for riding the train is fantastic. It means everyone from every walk of life can have a little enjoyment and a treat every now and again.
The trains at Frimley park Lodge are run by fantastic volunteers. From the signs dotted around the place I know they are always looking for new people to help out. If you are a train enthusiast I would highly recommend...
Read moreThis is one of the best miniature stream railway I have ever visited. There's a variety of different trains to catch and the track is really long compared to other places we have visited. The staff is friendly and the price is very reasonable. We went on a very busy day and yet we didn't have to queue for moor than 5 minutes, as the place runs like clockwork. The rest of the park is also great to visit and offer the usual facilities you might need for a young family (toilets, changing room and playground). I warmly suggested a visit to this great miniature railway on the first Sunday of every month (March...
Read moreI took my 2 year old son on this miniature railway. We did both enjoy it, however it is not as good as other miniature railways nearby. There is not much to see on the route that you take on the trains. Just woodland and you occasionally may pass people on foot decide to wave. Compared to Mizen's railway where there are lots of things to look out for on the way round makes it a much more enjoyable experience, especially for small children. Saying that its definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the park as there are lots of other things to...
