I've been coming to Watford market since the late 1970s. It used to be indoors with dozens of stalls selling food, household items, clothes, all sorts. Over the years it shrunk a bit, but was always nice to visit. Then the building was demolished to be redeveloped and the market moved outdoors. It's still going and is good if there's a stall selling the items you need. There's a lovely butcher, a couple of fruit & veg stalls and a selection of excellent food outlets. I used to go to the market in Charter Place but not to the new location (or Watford come to that). Surely "Charter" refers to a right to hold a market in centre of town. The Council should find a place for the market within the new development, but I know that is a forlorn hope. Local democracy doesn't work any more. Among the open stores, the general hygiene was not very appealing, with some areas appearing rather unkempt.
