Just popped here on the off-chance of a nice walk and spot some wildlife. A little disappointing, there were no road signs to the site, then a very small faded sign on the footpath that dissects the site, no notice boards of species or map of site. It is very difficult to view wildlife as the site is dense with grasses and reeds, there are small areas of water with restricted viewing of mute swans, black headed gulls, Canada geese, mallards, greylag and similar. The path is lined with buddleia so many butterfly, hoverfly and bee visitors. Apparently there are hides but I didn't find them. A very popular cafe can be found along the seafront...
Read moreA tranquil and peaceful place for a lovely walk. Very well preserved by the RSPB and thumbs up for the upkeep and haven it has become for wildlife. Lots of walks you can take and plenty to see. Only thing I would say is the carpark is a little pricey and does deter you from a longer stay, however there is not a lot the RSPB can do as it's council ran, so please don't let that put you off enjoying this wonderful place. Read moreAlthough built up on all landward sides, the reserve is teeming with birdlife. We were lucky enough to see a Ruff and lesser Yellow Legs as well as many common species. It was great to see so many Snipe going about their business. For photographers it is ideal with the birds nice and close, even a medium telephoto lens could get good shots.
