3 stars because its not the worst place, definitely a nice place to go to in the summer months. I've had bad experiences with the river water, not just myself but a few people have had some sort of poisoning when accidentally swallowing whilst playing/swimming. Good for socialising with friends or family. you will see the odd fitness groups which is quite a good thing for socialising and getting fit. good size playground for children.
Now for the bad parts. Dog walkers think they own the place, hogging the paths, some not picking up the dog litter. they removed the old tennis nets which were needed of a good maintenance which is good, however, they moved them closer to the river and the bike/skateboard ramps. Now these are where the older kids (teenagers) go. They are normally cocky and unsettling for some, rampant one could describe.
They should have just put the tennis nets in the same place, the football goal on the concrete they had were fine, now the uplifted that and put 2 sets of goal posts in a very small area and located next to the river. They should not cramp everything in like this. The council or the national trust could of moved the goal nets to where the tennis courts once were, as they have turned it into a flat field. I understand why they did this as there are some people who would vandalise the property, ruining...
Read moreThis is a fine example of a 1980s post modernism municipal car park, heavily influenced from the new realism movement of the 1960s. The juxtaposition of the parking bays are lined out in classical form that give rise to a conceptual narrative that informs and stimulates the driver. The addition of contemporary parking meters compliments and strengthens the sub narrative and the addition of blue, led lighting around their perimeter is reflective of the aesthetic. As Susan Sontag said; “The aim of all commentary on art now should be to make works of art — and, by analogy, our own experience — more, rather than less, real to us. The function of criticism should be to show how it is what it is, even that it is what it is, rather than to show what it means.” Plus it is only 20p to park...
Read moreSuch an unusual name for a lovely spot, but this park and garden is an ideal place to stretch those legs for a pleasant walk, walking the dogs, or even the odd picnic. In Autumn with the changing colours of the leaves on the trees and shrubs, this place is a very picturesque spot and while walking down by the River Bollin becomes even more enjoyable. Whenever traveling through this location I always like to visit this park. Park up the car and have a stroll, enjoy some fresh air while clearing the mind of the daily slog, does you the world of good. A real nice spot and so hard to believe that is only 5 or so miles away from the hussle and bussle of...
