Potyo: A Gastronomic Journey Through India Potyo is a culinary gem nestled in Wilmslow, offering an authentic Indian dining experience that transports diners to the vibrant streets of Goa and beyond. With a focus on traditional Coastal Indian cuisine, Potyo has quickly established itself as a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts seeking a taste of India.
The Goan Experience
My culinary journey at Potyo began with an exploration of Goan flavors. The Lamb Xacuti was a revelation, its rich, coconut-infused gravy and tender lamb cubes delivering a symphony of flavors. The Pork Collar Vindaloo was equally impressive, with its fiery intensity and complex spice profile showcasing the essence of Goan gastronomy. The Pork Choriz Chilly Fry was a delightful appetizer, its smoky sausage and crisp vegetables creating a satisfying combination. And let's not forget the Bombay Ragda Potato Chaat, a classic street food delight that Potyo elevated to new heights with its perfectly balanced flavors and textures.
A Tamil Culinary Adventure
My most recent visit to Potyo was a memorable experience, as I delved into the flavors of Tamil cuisine during the Tamil Kitchen Gourmet Night. The private dining room provided a serene and intimate setting, allowing us to fully appreciate the culinary artistry on display.
The Lijjat Papad Kolli was a delightful starter, with its crispy papad strips complemented by a tangy and flavorful peach and pepper chutney. The Tamil Starter Platter offered a tantalizing assortment of flavors, from the savory Mysore Bonda to the tender Chicken Tikka Mini-Skewers and the flavorful Varuval Cauliflower.
The Madurai Pork Pepper Fry was a standout dish, featuring pulled pork collar that was expertly seasoned with coriander and pepper. The rich and satisfying flavors were perfectly balanced by the accompanying mini parothas.
The Railway Prawn Curry and Usli Kodi Kurma were both exceptional mains. The prawn curry's complex blend of Kashmiri chili and sundried ginger created a truly memorable flavor profile, while the chicken curry's creamy cashewnut and coconut base was a delightful contrast to the dry fruit pulao.
The Trio of Desserts provided a fitting conclusion to the meal, with the Banana Chikki Ice Cream, Jackfruit Halwa, and Salem Mango Pavlova showcasing the diversity and richness of Indian sweets.

Read moreMy wife and I were working from home and decided to take a break and go out for lunch. Having lived in the area for a number of years and wanting to try somewhere new. We decided on Potyo as a friend had mentioned it. The menu was straightforward and simple. We chose some nibbles to share for a starter and both had curry bowls for our main. Both were excellent and very tasty. The service was brilliant and we were looked after by a very attentive young man, who was faultless. It was difficult to judge the ambiance because it was lunchtime and we were the only guests, seated downstairs near the window. If I had any negative comments it would be the cost of a glass of fairly ordinary Pino Grigio at £9.50. However, more importantly, if the owners are going to hold a marketing meeting with a potential supplier of social media services. Please do it somewhere else not on the next table to clients trying to have a quiet lunch. The young lady doing the presentation was far too loud. I felt like I was involved and was part of it. Would I come back a definite yes but next time we might try the evening service where food and enjoyment are...

This restaurant had been highly recommended to me by several local friends. However, for some reason, I never went until today.
I wish I had gone before!!!
We understand the restaurant has recently opened up at lunchtime, previously being only open in the evening.
The restaurant is decorated with a blue coastal theme. This created a very pleasant and relaxing setting, which was really enjoyable to spend time in.
The waiter was really friendly and helpful.
I went at lunchtime when there is a dedicated lunchtime menu. As such, I can't comment on the evening menu.
We shared the Somosa Chat as a starter. I had the Boatman Fish Curry Bowl for my main and my partner the Green Chicken Curry Bowl . I tried both the mains.
All the food was fantastic, with lovely balanced flavours. My favourite and recommendation is the fish curry.
Portion sizes were about right for lunchtime.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for a visit. If you are looking for tasty food and a relaxing, friendly environment, this should be high on your list of...
