I had a relative who had served with Isle of Wight Rifles. I knew there was a connection to the Hampshires, but not the details. A gentleman by the name of Colin was very helpful. I came away with a limited amount of info, but it still added to my knowledge. This can now be included into the family history. I used the word limited as 80% of Regimental service records were destroyed by air raids during WW2. So thank you Colin. Read moreMy great grandad was in the Royal Hampshire regiment so I thought I’d give this a visit. A small, quaint and unassuming museum but packed full of history. From musket balls to machine guns to medals and much more, the museum tells the tale of the regiment and their extensive history especially over the two world wars. Anyone with interest in military history, anybody whose family served in the regiment or anyone with a spare 30 minutes should check this out. Free entry, can’t go wrong. They deserve every penny in donations though....

The exhibits on display are fascinating with good interpretation to help the visitor understand the relevance of the object. There are several extremely life-like figures of Hampshire soldiers through the ages. There is so much to see here that each time I return I spot something new.
