We visited Lucky Lychee in Winchester on two consecutive weekends, travelling all the way from London—and it was absolutely worth it each time.
The satay beef and chicken were true standouts. Juicy, tender, and marinated to perfection, each bite delivered layers of flavour that were both rich and deeply satisfying. The meat was cooked just right, striking a balance between succulence and char-grilled depth.
The grilled aubergine, courgette & fresh broad bean Malay yellow curry was another highlight—comforting, aromatic, and full of warm, layered spices. The vegetables were beautifully grilled, adding a smoky depth that balanced the gentle heat and creaminess of the curry. It paired perfectly with rice and had that cozy, soul-satisfying quality that makes you want to go back for more.
The watermelon & cucumber salad with crispy pork cracking was a refreshing counterpoint—light, crunchy, and perfectly balanced. The watermelon was incredibly sweet and juicy, cutting through the richness of the pork crackling with a clean, fresh burst of flavor.
We also really enjoyed the char siu pork—beautifully roasted, with a sweet, savoury glaze and just the right amount of caramelisation. The texture was spot-on: tender, juicy, and packed with that classic smoky flavour.
The beef rendang with red pickle was another standout dish. The rendang was rich and deeply spiced, with melt-in-the-mouth beef, and the accompanying red pickle added a bright, tangy contrast that cut through the richness perfectly.
One dish that truly surprised us was the sesame prawn toast. Unlike the standard versions you find elsewhere, Lucky Lychee’s featured lemongrass, adding a zesty, refreshing twist. Light and crisp without a trace of oiliness, it was a clever, modern take on a classic starter.
Even the desserts were a delight. We tried the banana spring rolls, which were golden and crispy on the outside, with warm, sweet banana on the inside—simple, comforting, and very well executed. The cheesecake with pandan was especially memorable: fragrant, creamy, and subtly tropical. It’s a rare find in the UK and a must-try if you're looking for something a bit different to end your meal.
Lucky Lychee serves up food that’s fresh, thoughtful, and full of heart. Every dish feels crafted with care and intention. No wonder we made the trip two weekends in a row—it’s that good. Whether you're local or coming from London, this spot is well worth the journey.

Every thing from the food, to the hand crafted cocktails and without a doubt, the friendliest team of staff ive experienced hands down, everybody takes extreme pride in their work! If you're looking for somewhere with an extremely relaxing & accommodating environment, they've got you covered! (Great taste in music too!)
From the moment you walk in you feel immediately welcomed, and don't worry about taking your time with ordering drinks and food as you're offered a jug of iced water almost the moment you sit down whilst you wait! The whole serving experience really left a personal touch on me and had me leaving with the biggest smile and the fullest stomach!
The food is something you're just going to have to give a shot however, I realised at the end of my meal, I had polished every last bite, so photos we're out of the question, will 100% update my review soon with some as it really does looks as good as it tastes! The chicken bao is my GO TOO food as of recently, some of the juiciest chicken I've tried and the Rendang is to DIE for! Once you bite into 8 hour slow cooked beef, you'll never turn back..The vegan options pack a punch too, HIGHLY recommended the mango salad and fried tofu! Ive never experienced a burst of flavours from a salad like theirs..
Nicoles iced lemon grass & lime tea is a super fun pick for alcohol and non alcohol lovers! Whilst the cocktails taste, as I can best describe, like an art piece! Perfect blends of flavours and if you're lucky enough to have James make them, catch him at the bar! You won't be disappointed!
Overall, I am 100% in love with this restaurant and I'm at peace knowing its very close to me as I will be working my way through that menu one (or 3 at this rate) dishes at a time, easily my favourite place to bring my friends and family in Winch right now, but again, don't take my word for it, go grab as much as you can!!
Thank you to everyone at the Green Man for making my experience truly one to remember, I look forward to seeing you guys next!...
Read moreWARNING: DISABLED CUSTOMERS DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THIS BUSINESS. If I could give this restaurant no stars, I would. We tried to contact Lucky Lychee before making the booking to ask about accessibility, and there was no phone number on their website. We made the booking for 5pm, and expressly said we wanted to know about disabled access. My companion called their bar number, which popped up ONLY AFTER making a reservation and was told they were not taking bookings. About an hour later, I received a voicemail as I had no service saying they were not accessible but if I called they "might be able to sort something out". I then received a text saying there were no accessible entrances, but they might have some "options". To which I replied, if I cannot get in then I won't be coming. I clarified I would not be paying the cancelled fee as I CANNOT GET INTO THE BUILDING. I then received an aggressive text around 9.30pm saying that "I didn't respond" (which isn't true) and I "didn't bother showing up" and apparently cost them revenue. They certainly didn't care enough about the potential revenue from me and the 14 million other disabled people to become accessible, but seemed very concerned with the revenue I apparently "lost" them. I also question why they think I would actually waste my time to go all the way over to the venue to be told, to my face, that I cannot get in? We have contacted our bank, we will be contacting the local council for this fraudulent treatment. This could have been less of a hassle if they had just had a phone number on the website OR by posting that they were...
